I have an 2002 340 DA with 6.2 inboards. My mechanic (who is also a friend, so I have no reason to believe he is giving me the runaround, and is also a cert. mercruiser mechanic) told me the oil in one of the engines looked muddy, as if there was water injestion. He said he has seen this a couple of times and that the motors have the wrong exhaust crossovers. The exhaust pod should have a down angle of 18 degrees, and mine does not.
I did speak to someone at Searay who stated that there is an issue, and even a bulletin about it, but wouldn't say much more other than have the mechanic call. It appears as though this was a factory issue. Not done after the boat was sold. Has anyone heard of this issue before, and has Searay made good on it??:smt100

Great article. I will make sure the mechanic has this for some ammunition against Searay.

I had the same thing happen to my 2001 34' Cruisers. It had 7.4 mercs and only one had water ingestion problems. The cause was the same. The exhaust riser did not have enough of an angle and allowed water to drain back to the engines. The repair was about $6,000+, however, Cruisers and Merc picked up most of the cost of repair (the yard fixed the riser on both engines).

Good luck with the repair, hopefully Sea Ray will pick up some (or all) of the repair. This seems to be well documented problem with this size boat.
