340 SUNDANCER THREAD

for reference on the performance of the 6.2's we took the boat out for a nice cruise this past WE to get a pump out....we went coctail speed (around 8 - 10 mph) on the way there and cruised on plane on the way back to exercise the engines and clean the bottom of the hull...at first we cruised comfortably at 26 mph (GPS verified) at 3800 rpm's for most of the way home then slowed to around 20 mph at 3200 rpm's while still on plane.....this is with two adults, full water tank, camper canvas up, and more 'stuff' on board than i can list and the boat planed easily....i did use full trim tabs....at this speed there was plenty of power left in the engines since they are designed to rev between 4800 - 5200 rpm's at WOT....and it was nice to watch the fuel gauges hardly move after a 2 hour cruise....

So I just bought a 2005 Sea Ray 340 and the boat is in really good condition, mechanically the boat is sound, Gel coat and vinyl all seem to be well taken care of. But..... when I took off the camper top from the windshield frame I realized that the entire windshield frame is peeling. Has anyone else had an issue with this?? I really wasn't expecting this and don't know the best way to handle this. Any ideals??
I tried to attach photo t it wont let me. it says that I have exceeded my quota? SO I just added the picture to my signature.

Small world I have my 320 stored at Sun Up as well. I saw your boat there, looks really nice. Many of these boats with the painted aluminum frame do this including mine. I removed the top of the frame (by far the worst part) sanded it, primed with self etching primer, painted, and clear coated it. Temporary fix for now, long term plan is to have it completely re-done just don't have time right now

wow! it really is a small world. How the heck could you tell from that picture LOL. so my plan is to remove the entire windshield this weekend and I am taking it to a body shop who is going to.... steel brush the entire frame, spray it with a product called PUR which will stop the corroding and prevent future corroding , then paint it with a 2 part epoxy to seal it, and then finally repaint it silver. Lots of work and a pain in the a** but should able to re-installed in 2 weeks (just in time or launch)

I drive past your boat on the way to mine, could tell by the rack storage in the background, it is a PIA and time consuming. I plan on doing mine this winter.

My 2000 340 purchase is underway, Boat launched today. Survey weds of next week. Met mechanic, he said while getting it ready and charging battery banks, charger smelled funny. he put a charger on it from the marina.
I assume its original, any thought on what to replace it with?
The bimini is discolored its Tan, any cleaner restorer that has worked for you guys?
Thanks
Bud

On taking off windshield be very very careful the price on a new one was $22,000.00 think before you remove it. If you want to take it off have some one who has done it before doing it and insured. Think about have it done in place.

Just saw this post. we took it off this weekend. it was actually very easy. but I definitely agree about the replacement cost. We were very careful and it is at shop now being worked on. to do the repair while on boat would have been a mess.
Thanks!

Hey guys,
Im having my 2000 340 surveyed weds, I noticed some clear tape along the front window seal, but lower where the black (foam?) insert is. The owner says he has a new seal to be installed once it gets warmer? Any clue whats going on here? Id it a source of leaks to interior? maybe the black foam stuff creates black stains on fiber glass? I am getting this info third hand thru broker.Just seems odd.

Mine leaks around the vent window... When we bought our 340, the first thing I did was buy a cockpit cover. My cockpit cover covers the entire windshield, so we have no leaks... More importantly is protects the interior from the sun...

Having that done as we speak.

Hi all,
Closing on the 2000 340 this week.
Couple question I have not seen in other threads, so i'll try them here.

1.Whats the best cleaner for the cockpit vinyl seating? Clean and protect.
2.Short curtains (weave material) over side ports. How do you clean them?
3.Wife saw a suede looking forward mattress cover on another 340, can i still buy new from Searay?

As you may notice im looking to do alot of cleaning over the next few weeks. Any help appreciated
Bud.

Guys I hate to disagree but I cringe at the advice of magic eraser on vinyl. The reason the eraser seems like it's working well is because you are essentially sanding the surface what you're cleaning. I know many of you say that a little 303 will help restore the uv properties but the fact remains you have removed a layer of vinyl.

Now I don't mind it so much on hard surfaces, removing scuff marks from the dock for instance, but be sure to wax the area soon after using the eraser.
