340 SUNDANCER THREAD

I have synthetic teak in my cockpit and on the swim platform - lots of pics in my blog. My 340 came with the optional rod holders already installed, and they work well for a small grill.

I'm also looking into the synthetic teak. We came across two vendors (1 in CT and one in LI). One stated that they would come out and template and install for $65 per sq. The other was $60 a square installed or $35 per sq but they template and I would install. From what I was told when I asked about how hot it gets, is that its based on how dark of a color you get. I'm also very interested to see what people think of the product. As for the grill I just use my rod holders. PO installed them so I didn't have to make that call. My only advise would be to get good ones if you go that route. The ones I have come in two pieces. I've had the bottom piece fall off into the engine room when trying to secure my grill (not fun). I plan on replacing them with ones that are more regid.

I have a 2002 340 and I have a couple of questions:
- Has anyone figured out a good place to mount a grill? Looks like drilling a hole for a rdo holder is a good option but before I (intentionall) put a hole in my boat I thought I would ask.

Clamp on rod holder on the "trunk" rail works great, especially in combination with the magma powr-mount rod holder attachment for the magma rectangualr grills. I dont have a photo handy but can find one for you if you need it.

I have a 2002 340 and I have a couple of questions:
- Does anyone have experience with PlasDeck synthetic teak? Looking at using in on the swimplatform and cockpit area.
- Has anyone figured out a good place to mount a grill? I am considering drilling a hole for a rod holder and using that as its mount.

Pictures for either question are appreciated.

I am considering TT Custom Marine for the Plas Deck. They already have the template for the boat and can ship in about a week after the order.

Here's a link which shows where I mounted the grill on my 340. The location has worked very well over the years.

After spending an absolutely gorgeous day on the lake (85 degrees) I had an interesting thing happen after we were docked and getting ready to bunk for the night. I'm checking the cockpit area for the last time and notice the aft bilge light is on...no biggie I've seen this in the past and its usually off in a minute or two. I go lay down...about 30 minutes later I figure I'll check to make sure its off.....go to the helm...still on...I'm like "crap"....open the ER hatch....grab a flashlight and take a peak....I see water kinda spritzing up from the aft bilge area. Now....a little history....my first boat sank a year ago so me and water in the boat are NOT friends....I manage to get back there far enough by laying on top of the port engine and squeeezing my big ass back there to see whats happening ( I won't be doing that again almost got stuck and have the war wounds to prove it). Anyone care to guess what it was?

It was one of the bilge pump hoses that had a small hole worn in it from the steering linkage (they run across the transom)...the pump would push the water thru the hose and it would squirt out the hole and kind of recycle it back to the bilge till it was dry...skeered the crap out of me.

The question here is why are you getting so much water in the bilge in the first place for the pump to kick on automatically. I get rainwater in my bilge form time to time, but never enough to set the float off. I would be a little concerned about that amount of water in there, especially after running the boat. Have you checked all of your packing and or seals lately?

I've only had this boat for a couple months so..no...I haven't checked them but I will...thanks for the concern.

I'm with Zorba. My bilge is totally dry and if water is gettin in, I would need to know quickly. Check rudders, shafts, raw water lines and even the city water line.

They are great if you want OEM canvas... You will need an installation tool or pay some one to install the canvas. They will not send you enough snaps, but they will send you more for free if you request them. If you install it your self, buy the more expensive snap tool that looks like a giant letter C... I the vice grip tool does not work well and you will regret using it after you mangle several snaps...
