340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Now it's time for maintenance... Looks like I need spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, and fuel filter... Any suggestions for the best place to get these items or any other suggestions (just in case I missed something). Thank you to all of you that have helped me with information so far. This has been a great resource. So far, I love my 340 and wonder why I didn't have one sooner.

I usually look online... I use Fram PH 34 filters for oil, but I like to live dangerously... I orded my last fuel filters online for about 1/2 the price fo WM... I order from a few sites depending the their prices... The spark plugs I order from non-marine parts parts online sites. Look for specials, such a free shipping and compare prices.

I saw an earlier post that discussed spark arresting requirements. Is it safe to assume that I don't need to worry about that with these maintenance parts?

rcknecht - thanks for reminding me about fuel filters.

This may be a dumb question, but is there an air filter to replace too? I don't have the boat or manuals handy right now.

Planning to buy a 99' 340 with Mercruiser D-Tronic 4.2L diesel motors.

Anyone here with these motors?

Can't find much information on the web about these.

Thanks for your help!

No air filter that I know of...

We are new to the Club Sea Ray website. We just purchased our first Sea Ray 2001 Sundancer 340. We have a complete factory tan canvas top set including eisen glass that we would like to sell. It is in excellent condition and the only reason it is not being used is because we purchased the boat with two sets of tops and we are keeping the black square back canvas set up. What is a a fair price? Please make us an offer. Call Ron at 414-840-6537.

Are you talking the fastback too? I replaced the tops and got a cockpit cover from Great lakes boat top two years ago...I want to say the tops were about $500-700 each and the cockpit cover was over a grand I think.... Glass is not cheap either...I wish I was in the market to take them off your hands. I am in WI too.

Hi all - it was recommended that I change my manifolds this coming season. I still have the originals on my 2005 340 with 8.1s, approximately 350 hours. I've read that 7-8 years is the right time to do it - anybody disagree? What should I reasonably expect this to cost?

I have a 2003 340 with the 'new' bodystyle. From what I understand there was a first run that included the old toggle switches and then the new style with touchpads. I have all kinds of hell with my touchpads, which I think is related to my problem. My issue is with my dash lights in my gauges. The touchpad lights come on when the nav lights are on, but never the gauge lights. Now I know they do work, because when you are starting the engines, they flicker on while in the crank portion, and as soon as the engines fire up, the gauge lights are off. Any ideas? I've been searching this forum, all the internet and I'm stuck with nothing.

You need to take a look at them. Changing your exhaust manifolds and risers is much less expensive than buying a replacement engine.

My '05 originally had aluminum manifolds. They don't do well in salt water. If yours are aluminum, I would definitely change them. Mine were operated in fresh water, changed in '08, and looked real good after 3 years. MM changed mine to cast iron under a recall program...

Thanks for the input. Fortunately my originals are cast iron, but used in salt water.

So I'm going to answer my own question - this has been going on for a year now. The other night I was looking at settings on the Vessel View display, and had a hard time reading the screen at night so I changed the contrast and brightness. As soon as I bumped up the brightness, the dash gauge lights magically lit up. The touchpad dimmer buttons do not appear to do anything, but upping the brightness on Vessel View seemed to fix the issue.

I replaced the manifolds and risers on my 2001 340 DA this year. Cost with labor was about $4000. Cast Iron. The yard took pics of the inside of the risers...there had only been about an inch opening through the risers which were otherwise filled with rust. 7-8 yrs is probably a good time frame to consider replacing. Our vessel, which we had just purchased the prior season, probably went too long, although there was no damage...there certainly could have been at any time.

On the 1999-03 and possibly beyond.....what is under the seat on the starboard side under the forward closet? (Opposite of the sink.) There seems to be no way to access it on my boat (2000) and seems like a lot of wasted space. I have not figured out what possibly is under there. Does anyone know?

Aloha,

I just bought a 1999 340da. I can't find the filler cushion for the plan b dinette sleeper. When I try to make a bed for the mid cabin seating area, one side always slides off and it caves in in the middle. The cushions are pretty stiff too.

My wife thinks the v berth foam mattress isn't comfortable. We have had a number of sleep on nights already, but it would be great to improve the comfort of these. Do you have any recommendations?

we are going to be knee deep in repairing engines (hopefully not repowering), electronics (including replacement/upgrades to the navigation systems), cockpit enclosures, new ice maker, fiberglass oxidation and the list goes on.

There aren't a lot of sea ray resources in Hawaii. I hope you guys don't mind a bunch of novice questions.

For the V-birth, I have a thick piece of memory foam and cut it to fit. There are mattress companies that will custom make one for you too. Just search custom mattress. The only thing we struggle with or memory foam is it slips down through the night so in the morning you always have to mess with it to put it back in place. It is comfy though...

I got the plan b dinnette insert drawing from Sea Ray, but there are no dimensions. My wife planned on making a replacement, but since we don't have an urgent need for the cushion she has not made it. W use a comforter over the V berth. You could cut some memory form and cover it with a Queen fitted sheet. We don't sleep on the boat very often, and my complains more about my encroachment, than the confort of the cushions.
