340 SUNDANCER THREAD

I sent an email to Sea Ray about this question and was assured the hull on my 2006 340 is solid fiberglass. Your 2003 should be the same.

Phi everyone; thanks for the feedback. For the record, I called SeaRay and spoke with them directly. They told me that while the 340 does have areas that are cored, the hull below water line has never been cored in any production run.

So...we close on our new boat and first SeaRay tomorrow! Just in time for the holiday weekend. Thank you.

That is a good lead. Thanks for the link Rod. Something like that will certainly get me going quicker now that the season has started!

Hi all...so first goofy question. Closed on boat today. Went over this evening to check her out. I can make most stuff work based on Old knowledge. However, I can't figure out how to get cabin lights to come on. Boat is on shore power. They worked during survey. Is there a master cabin switch that I am missing? In our old motor home we had to actually depress the lens on the lights but that does not work in this situation...help.

Hi Bizzy, congrats on the new boat!
I have an 01 but it's probably similar.
Theres a switch on the main breaker panel that says 'cabin lights' that needs to be on. On mine there are two switches just inside the cabin door; one for courtesy "mood" lighting in the mid cabin and forward birth around the mirror and step to front bed and steps to cockpit, the other is for all the spot lights (if the individual switches on each of them is off then you won't get other lighting). Under the breaker panel I have 2 switches, one for AC lighting and the other for DC lighting. One thing that I don't know if they changed for your year is that in order for the bathroom light to work the switch for the spot lights needs to be on. A quick fix I did was bought a motion operated battery powered light that I hung in the bathroom so the kids don't leave the light on all night in there.
Hope this helps

Can someone tell me what this is?
I think it's a steering directional indicator, but it doesn't seem to work.

Hi, looking for the rear bolster, and possibly the stern cushion as well for a 2001 340 Sundancer. Part numbers and descriptions are:

1202944 BOLSTER, 340DA-99 FWD FACING GSW/GLD
1206093 BOLSTER SKIN, 340DA-99, FWD FACING

1202936 CUSH, 340DA-99 FWD FACING GSW/GLD
1206077 CUSH SKIN, 340DA-99, FWD FACING

Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

That's what I thought. Thanks for the reply. Another punch-list item to investigate when I'm in the bilge next.

HI all,
anyone replaced the black foam trim around outside of windshield? I want to rebed the screws and change out the trim.
thanks

Hello - there are so many posts it is overwhelming and I have searched and not found what I am looking for, if it is even known. I have a 1986 340 454's. I am looking for info on the most economical rpm/speed to cruise. I know all boats are a bit different, but I have only had this boat a short time and I am hoping some other 340 folks might give me some comparables.  I tend to spend a lot of time at 2800-2900 rpm which gets me about 18-19 knots - it is a comfortable speed, but I am thinking that it might not be the most economical. Would I be best cruising at 3000?  3300?

Any one ever have to change the cutlass bearings on the new body
03-07 340'DA , and what did it cost ???

Tired of sun damaged to seats so had sun shade made.

i had the exact same cover made last year when I had new canvas made except mine is in 3 separate pieces and I use it for a different reason.....I am under a covered slip so I don't need protection from the sun....I use it as a 'storm cover' during the times I have all of the canvas windows and side curtains removed and rain is expected while we are out on the water...I can install this cover in just a couple mins...it is MUCH easier than installing the camper windows and is much easier to store....between this cover and the double bimini top the majority of the cockpit will stay dry....I keep it rolled up on the deck beside the captain's seat.....I think I will have a window put in the section of the cover in front of the captain's seat so that I could operate the boat with the cover on if needed....I guess i could also use it as a sun shade when we are anchored out on the water....have not tried that yet.... but I would think that would block off a lot of the cooling wind on a hot day.....

Just bought a 2002 340da about 3 months ago. No unusual issues that I have found. Nice boat!

Its an absolute plumb, even has auto-pilot, shame its not twin yanmar turbo diesels, I expect the twin 454's are thirsty, there close to new though. Im undecided at the moment, waiting on resigning a work contract, the owner is keen to take my 240 as half the cost, we are getting together next week for a beer as we both have a day off.. its a bloody nice boat. Is there any noticeable difference in ride with the 17 degree dead rise compared to 21 degree? and is there actually a wide body 340? you can walk down the side of this one.

Cheers,
Stuart.

can I have an opinion on this 340, I am going to view it tomorrow, any known issues with this model? anything particular to look out for? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/vict...ancer-340-wide-body-sports-cruiser/1112365749

Cheers,
Stuart

two things to look out for:

1. soft spots in deck due to water intrusion into the wooden core from leaking deck hardware.....common problem if boat has been exposed to the weather for long periods of time....VERY expensive to repair......

2. engine damage due to the 'log style' exhaust (huge issue with this era boat)....do a search on 'Mercruiser water inversion/ingestion' to read about the issue with the exhaust design and how it should have been converted to using water lift mufflers....

good luck....

ty, good call on checking the deck for soft spots, I recall the owner saying the engines had riser spacers fitted, can you tell by the pic in the add if it has been converted? had 2 new long block engines in Nov 2015
