340 SUNDANCER THREAD

I guess the first question is did you have it surveyed and are there any moisture issues in deck structure? If so, I would address those issues first -- rebed hatches, windshield frames, etc.

Then updated electronics are always nice. Do you need upholstery? Cockpit carpet/sea deck, etc?

Thanks golfman!. Deck is good shape. Hatches and Frames as well. Boat is in really good shape but for some creature comforts. Need to replace the Norcold DE441 refrigerator. Can't find the parts but have multiple suggestions for Nova Kool and Vitrifrigo. Any suggestions (model number specific)?

Do some searches here. Many have done it and provide the specifics.

Can someone tell me if the 4 bolts need to come out or does the element “spin” out like my home water heater? Thanks

What's wrong and why replace? If its not getting hot just replace the element. Unless the tank is leaking all else should be repairable.

Does anyone have knowledge of the reset button I just found in my searches? Will it trip if the unit was turned on with no water?

Hoping for an easy fix. Just taking the pic was painful!

2000 340. DE441 Refrigerator. Is the capacitor shown below used with the DE 441 refrigerator? Removed mine yesterday and found this on the floor in the back. The power panel was missing. I’m thinking someone salvaged it. Wondering if this capacitor used in line or was it an attempt to circumvent the missing power panel. Thanks. F56BC56E-8552-4BF2-B55F-BE9FD61FC286.jpeg

It was not connected, but the DC harness had eyelets that looked like it may have been in line to the power.

Our `99 had a 19" flat screen TV in it when we purchased it. It was bolted down and very functional. Unfortunately, the TV has gone bad. Curious as to what others have done in that space when replacing TVs?

Curious if anyone has put 200ft of Anchor Chain in there locker.... And just used all Chain? Did you notice any stern lift or bow dip... And difference in performance? Its only 208lbs but thats all the way up in the bow....

Is the finger pressing the chain/rope against the Gypsy ? That’s the most common problem with the Lofrans Progress 1 windlass. I was having a problem, mine would not retrieve the chain or top, and when I backed down to set the anchor, the chain/rope just kept coming out.

I got a new spring and post from P2marine.com. Lofrans changed the spring, finger and the post for the finger in 2002. They are either pre-2002, or Post 2002. If your boat is a 2002, look at the post the finger is on. If it’s a 9mm drop in post, held in by a set screw on the aft of the windlass body, it’s post-2002. If it’s a 8MM SCREW IN post, it’s pre-2002.

I ordered a new finger from Steve Dixon dixonprecision@gmail.com. He’s a machinist and makes them. You won’t find it anywhere else. He’s in GA, and will have it to you within a few days, and takes PayPal. Fixed my problem.
Do you know how to back out the stud on a 2001 I believe it is treaded in?

I have 125' 5/16" chain, backed by another 100' of 5/8" nylon 3 strand. We seldom anchor in deep water, so I'm usually just all chain out and a Mantus nylon bridle, but I carry the extra 100ft of nylon just in case we need the scope in a little deeper than normal anchorage. Only thing that the extra 100' of chain might have done from my original anchor configuration is help get up on plane a little faster, bringing the bow down with less trim tab, but that's probably more what my mind thinks it should do... no actual empirical measurements to back that up.

Having that chain sure makes anchoring easier, and more reliable. The catenary effect seems to help moderate rough anchorages a little better too.

I removed the original 25' chain in my 05 300DA and added 100' of chain. Originally it was 25' chain and 250' of line. I took all the line out of the locker and reversed it so that the most unused portion of the line is now spliced to the anchor chain. I also cut 50' off the well-abused end of that was originally spliced to the chain and then secured it into the anchor locker. End result is 300' rhode, 100 chain and 200 line. Rarely go past the chain while anchoring around here.

The extra weight forward didnt cause a noticeable dip to the bow in the slip. Did get a little boost while getting on plane. If you want to test it, put some bench press plates up in the bow and see what happens. Or use cases of water.

Although my 340 was a generation earlier (2002), having the extra weight of 150' of chain in the bow helped the boat get on, and stay on, plane. I felt the trim tabs were undersized on my generation and as noted by others, the extra chain made anchoring that much more comfortable - and sooner or later, the splice between the chain and rode causes the windlass to jamb. I vote for "do it"!

The only downside to more/all chain in my experience is the scum line. Depending on how close your bottom paint is to the waterline on the bow, you may notice a bit more scum on the gelcoat post-chain. 200' of chain brought my bow down by a 1/2" +/-. A bit more when my fuel tanks are below half.
