Hey T, I believe that year only offered the 8.1's as far as gasser's.

Someone else might want to jump in here to verify.

I think the 6.2's came on the 320 model for those years.

that would be with outdrives.........that should be OK

Edit - the "old style" 340 was available the 1st part of 2003 - it had 19degree deadrise and offered 6.2 v-drive - this boat is closer to the '02-up 320 than the "next" (2003 1/2 - 2008) 340 - when shopping 2003s and comparing them to 2004s make sure your only comparing "new" style 2003s - as mentioned earlier the newer only offer the 8.1s in a v-drive configuration.

I would go with 8.1's, I talked to a lot of people before purchasing my 340 and 6.2 just not enough hp.

I have a 02 340 Dancer with 6.2, V drives with 4 blade Nibral props. The only issue with this boat is that the Searay did not put the proper trim tabs on this boat. I installed the diesel trim tabs that fit this boat from Searay. The boat accelerates and gets on plane quickly. I run the boat 3,600 rpm's when on a trip. The MPH is 26 to 28. If a person in the market finds a 340 with 6.2in good condition, it would be an excellant boat. Bottom line is that bigger is always better however thre 6.2's work just fine. There is an 02 340 Dancer For Sale in the classified section that has 6.2's for power. Looks Very Nice with a lot of ammenities and a good price.

I agree with George. I spent countless hours this past fall searching for an 01 or 02 340 DA set up with 8.1's and V drives that met my standards for condition/price. I wouldn't even consider 6.2's for personal reasons. I just wanted the BIG motor. I finally found one in VA that got an A+ survey for condition. Now......I just need Spring!

I am finalizing the purchase of a 2004 340 with 8.1 V drives, took it for a spin a few months back, it's a rocket.

Couple questions I have for the group.
1, has an ice maker topside, looking to change out with a fridge since I'm on a lake and have easy enough access to ice. Is it a simple replacement with a Norcold?
2, I read that one of the compartments on the port side is for a carry on cooler but can't find pictures of one. I did look in the manual and have the specs on the size, just curious if the boat came from the factory with one.

The boat is stunning with the blue hull, I am upgrading from a 250 CR Montery.

1. Besides, disconnecting the water line, it should be a plug and play type of install (with the obvious mounting brackets)
2. The compartment you speak of holds a 36qt ice chest.

My 34 came with the refrigerator upgrade, also there was no ice chest there. I downloaded all the manuals from Sea Ray's website cause the P.O. didn't leave me any manuals.

Good Luck with your purchase and most of all ENJOY HER!!!

I believe that the ice maker is A/C current only. If you want an AC/DC fridge you will have to run a DC circuit.

Thank you both for the replies. I finished the purchase yesterday now can't wait for winter to move on. Since I'm on the Big Lake in NH ice is readily accessible, rather not head below to grab an adult beverage!

Hi...I was new to boating in 04 when I purchased a used 03 340 from a private sale. Boat was pristine with 6.2's. I had no clue that the upgrade was the 8.1 which eventually became the standard engine a year or 2 later because searay felt they were undersized. My set up came with 3 blade nibrals and I only get to 18 mph when im running at 3850 rpm. If I push it to 4200 i'll get to 23mph. Wondering if the 4 blade props are making all the difference. Whats up with the trimtabs. I have no idea what the difference would be size wise.
thanks, Ben

I just closed on my boat.

Went through the 6.2 vs 8.1 question. Based on my research, when the later model 2003's came out, they were standard with the 6.2's, 8.1 was an option. At some point - 06 or 07, they dropped the 6.2's and only offered the 8.1's - they became standard. This can all be confirmed on the Sea Ray site by looking at the past model specs.

For me, I arranged to be on an 8.1 one day, then on a 6.2 the next day. Similar conditions ( wind, etc ). I could tell a difference between the two. 8.1's went on plane at a lower RPM, faster than the 6.2's.

Turned the bow into the wind, reversed the transmission at idle. The 6.2's started a turn, then stopped in the wind. The 8.1's would turn the boat around into the wind at idle.

Looking at boats on the market, very few 6.2's -- most on the market were 8.1's. I felt resale would hold better with the 8.1's.

Just my opinion - I held out to find an 8.1 boat.

As a follow on - different topic -- my boat came with the upgraded Refrig in the cockpit. We think we would prefer the ice maker.

Anyone have any thoughts on moving from a fridge to an icemaker? Wondering if someone would want to trade?

The fridge is a 1k upgrade, but for us - we are thinking an icemaker would fit our needs better.

Am I crazy?

I have an icemaker and would prefer a fridge. I don't trust the ice to be drinkable since the water in the tanks sits there. I add a very small amount of chlorine to the potable marina water to be safe for washing etc. but don't want the icemaker ice in drinks. So for me, the ice is not used for much on our boat (mostly goes in the small ice holder by the cockpit sink to keep a couple cans cold). A cockpit fridge would be much more useful IMHO.

I have an Icemaker in mine and I would prefer the Fridg. I would be interested in trading.

Just settling in on this boat. I am thinking I am "going" to want an icemaker, but will probably wait for a couple of months - see what I think then. I will post back on here if I (or rather the admiral) decide to make the switch - can see if a swap might work.

Thats fine......I'll be here! :smt024 My reasoning for wanting the Fridge is the AC/DC option. I'm on a dock at my home without shorepower capability and would utilize the Fridge more than the icemaker.
