I should be taking delivery of a 2002 320 sundancer in a few weeks. It has the slanted back type canvas but no "camper" style top. I am told sea ray did not offer them due to "safety concerns". What were the concerns ? How do I go about getting one ? I am sure owners of these boats have came up with something. Any info would be greatly appreciated.:smt001

Concerns: carbon monoxide poisoning and death from the station wagon effect of pulling exhaust fumes into the cockpit.
How to get one: a custom upholstery shop, or Taylormade fastback. There are lots of examples here on the website, just be careful about fumes.

Thanks, I figured as much about the fumes. I guess if you put one up it would be prudent to install detector in cockpit area.

Absolutely. Most keep extras in the cockpit and cabin. I think it was Scott (Skolbe) who made a comment about how high the CO level was in his open cockpit with a digital meter. Maybe someone will link to that thread. Here is an example of a custom one. I want a camper for at the dock for the increased space, but 4-6k in cost put it on the back burner.

We love our camper top, but yes, co is a real concern. At higher rpms it will accumulate in the cockpit. I therefore keep vent window wide open, and all rear and side panels rolled up. Keep your cabin door closed as well. When I first got the boat, I didn't. I heard an alarm below and going below reqlized it was the fwd co detector. I high tailed it out of the cabin but had a headache for an hour. Could have been much worse. Personally, we anchor a lot. If you are doing a lot of long runs it may be an issue. But, I know many people on the csr site that have them and they can also give you ideas for good venting. One of the reasons I eventually want diesels, as they put anout about 90 percent less
co if I remember correctly.

We're on our 3rd boat and just had the canvas redone to include a camper back on our 370. I posted some pics on this thread http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/54531-Canvas-replacement-custom

Our other 2 boats came with camper backs. We were aware of the fume issue and simply never run with the boat closed up. The camper's purpose is for at anchor or dock. It provides us with the extra living area that the slope back doesn't. The biggest benefit is the extended top to the stern so that there is some shade on those super hot days. If we want the sun, then the camper top comes off leaving us with the smaller rear roof piece only.

Thanks for the replies. So if I stay with the fast back is it safe to run with it up? We do a bit of running in the winter so we would want her closed up. What about on anchor on the gen?
Thanks again, this is a learning process for me going from go fast all my life to a cruiser for the first time.

I have a TaylorMade Fastback for a 2005 320 that I owned for 1 season. It cost me $2200 new and you can have it for $500 plus shipping. I don't know if there was that much difference between those model years but if it will work it would save you a lot. It is tan in color and I can send you pics if you like. PM me and we can talk further if you like.

That would have been great if it would have been blue. Is there a such thing as "dying" the canvas. Thanks for the offer.

Hey, Tickfaw!!! Do you have any pics of the 320 you're buying:huh:

Hey I just messaged you. Been a while since I checked the site. sorry. I do have a few picks but not sure yet how to post. Hope all are ok after the storm.

Yep, sure did. View my profile and I have some more pics of the install with all the lights that were put in last year. As far as your pic situation, contribute to the site TRUST ME IT'S WORTH EVERY CENT and you'll be able to post more pics. If the picture can't be scaled down in size, you might want to open a photobucket account, I think it's free, and post your pics there and then post the link to it when you upload your pics. Good luck:thumbsup:

Those LEDs look great !!! I want some just like that. You will have to share the details.

Too Late. Already made an agreement on a 320. Thanks. Are y'all going to the wooden boat fest? Would you happen to know Frank and Candy that has the sunsation boat? They are from N.O. We are friends with them as well as many others from y'alls side of the lake.
