310 Sundancer Thread (2007 & newer)

Marshall,

Quick note.... Leak fixed! The leak was actually coming from the driver side windshield and traveling to that location. Removed black seal and bedded the screws again with sealant. The problem was that I found one screw was missing.

Hope this helps you.
Mike
Hey Mike, took your advise and removed the weather stripping.... There were a bunch of windshield screws that were definitely Leaking!
Thanks Marshall

Hi Marshall,

I hope things dried up. It's incredible how far water can travel.... sometimes half the distance of a boat.

Hi My name is Shane. I wanted to ask for some advice. In a week I am closing on a 2007 SeaRay 310 twin 350 mag vdrives with 240 hours on it. Is there anything you can tell me from your knowledge to look for on the survey??? I know the risers and manifolds need to be done, they havent been done yet. here is a link to the boat. Thank you very much. I really appreciate your time. Should I do a compression check???:huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh:

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Hi Shane , congratulation on your new boat I also got a new to me a 2008 310 sundancer it will be delivered to me next Thursday,I am sure a good surveyor will know what to look for.

What kind of Davit ?
2008 310 Sundancer I wanted to know if the Hurly h20 davit will fit in my boat ? And any other advice concerning this boat will be appreciated

I got a 2008 310 about 1 month ago and yesterday my Depth stopped showing on my Vessel View. Anyone no where the sounder is located in the engine bay, thought i would check for a loose connection. I already tried shutting off batteries and turning them back on with no changes. Anyone had same issue, or recomendations? Thanks in advance!

Hey, Captain Shane I looked at that boat it looked clean!

Good luck in your 2008 310 for whatever the reason is, those 310 Sundancer owners don't seem to be to helpful to the new owners .

Bryan, go on Sea Ray's website. All the info you need is on their, parts and owners manual's can be downloaded in PDF!!

Mmt, you must be originally from NY!!

Mmt, I personally would love and willing to help on anything. I love this boat, but it does have some strange design flaws. # 1 problem.... Engine hatch breaker in the bilge! I haven't had it break on me yet in a position that would require extra work, but I'm scared as hell! I can't do anything (remove ram pins) when they are in front of me much less through the access holes if the circuit breaks when the hatch is down!
#2 seems like these boats leak rain water from multiple locations! I would try to seal the windshield as much as possible! (Screws) Also, boat seems to list a bit to starboard, and the design of the runoff brings water into the cockpit under and to the right of helm instead of flowing out over side! I have everything pretty tight now!
# 3 system view screen quality stinks! Keep having to adjust contrast to see and outer edges are fading!
# 4 hate the horn!!!!!!
# 5 can't run stereo on cockpit without having it also sounding in cabin! Fader doesn't work at least with the premium setup!
# 6 small sink (both)
# 7 loud fridge in cockpit

That being said, except the hatch, these are all small things and this boat rocks!!!!

Hi Mnt,

we are a helpful bunch here - but not online every day :) Shane got a lot of feedback from everyone including my feedback (some was in PM's - some in the forums!)

The h2o davits should fit - you have exactly 34" where your swimplatform is the shortest. You have about 16-20" from swimplatform to water. I'm still not certain if I'll get the h2o's for mine - but I have measured up and they should fit - as long as your dinghy is not to long and wide. (My measurements are based on the Merc Dinghy with hard bottom - the 250 model. That is a tight fit but with the 10" mounting system from Hurley - you will have a few inches of swim platform left to walk on.

But if you really want help - start by posting your configuration - engine types - fresh / raw water cooled - Axius? - electronics - etc etc. Then we are in a better position to give you pointers.

Bryan - your sounder is between the engines - in the middle section. Black thing with a single wire coming out of it. Since I have not seen a V-Drive 310 IRL - I would say - look for it between the mid section of each engine - just in front of your bilge pumps. - But the PDF manuals show the position.

On a 2008 it is most likely a NMEA 0183 sounder that feeds into the engine harness. Later models is NMEA 2000 (2009+) It is easy to replace as it is only "screwed" in - and can be replaced while the boat is in the water. But it HAS to be replaced with a NMEA 0183 version. There should also be a plastic plug there - so you can take the transducer out - and put the plug in so you wont have water coming in while you replace it and get cables right etc. If you have not "plugged" it before - try to find someone who has - it is a bit daunting to open a 1 1/2 hole in the bottom of your boat :)

The transducer might just need a good clean to get it working again. If you don't dive under the boat to clean it - pull it out - and put the plastic plug in - and after you have cleaned it - give it a few coats of Transducer paint on the bottom surface. Transducer paint is water based anti fouling paint. Does not work VERY well - but keeps the worst off...

I am really sorry if I offended any one it was not my intent , Kaz911 thank you for your reply I just ordered the H20 and I will let you know how it works.

No problem - I'm not offended :) Just remember this is not Sea Ray people answering - we are mostly all just normal boaters like you - who tries to stay OUT on the water on weekends in the season - and not online in the forum unless we carelessly break something. :)

Remember to ask Hurley for some shims - I have not measured my "lip" on the platform but you do need to raise the mount slightly to get above the lip at the back. The Shims are supplied for free by Hurley. And get the Tie Down ratchet straps as well - if you are in salt water - get the stainless steel ones - and the folding pad eye (x2) with backing plates. You don't want to use the cleats for for holding the dinghy - else someone WILL trip over the ropes at some point.

And remember :) when buying a new boat and posting here .. the first thing you do is post some pictures! :) No pictures.. no boat....

And congratulations! The 310 is a very nice ride.

Kaz thanks for the help. the manual only shows the Stern drive option, but it is where you say. I was on boat all weekend and it was working at the slip then a mile out it stopped again. I noticed that when the depth isnt working the water temp shows 185 degrees. Does this mean i have a connection issue? If it had some growth on it i would think the water temp would still read correctly. The boat was bottom coated in April in South Carolina and power washed before it went in the water up here. Plus I dont know how the hell i am going to be able to get down there to take it out. The transmisions are on both sides of the transducer. Do you know if there is a seperate temp sender or are they one unit? When i looked down there i couldnt tell if it was a second unit or the plug you where telling me about.

there can be two reasons for it not working. First is connectivity issue. The sounder has a connector on it - usually bundled up in with a lot of other wires. If there has been a lot of water in the bilge - it might be corroded. Especially if it was salt water.

The other thing is - the transducer can get to hot - and stop working. That might mean it does not have a lot of life left in it.

But check connections first. Find a 10 year old :) you can hold in the legs and "lift" him down there *G*. Where I am most mechanics as Asian so they will usually fit where us more "well fed[read fat]" westerners wont. :) - take the connector apart - and put it back together. That will usually get rid of the worst corrosion. If that works - find some small tools to clean the connector with - and some contact cleaner. And hold the little guy down there again to clean it. :) You can apply some dielectric grease or vaseline inside the connector to stop it corroding again.

Another issue. I hate the Northstar ns100 I had it on our last sea ray and had issues then. On our new boat it worked up until the other day then the pins bent. Has anyone replaced it yet? I was looking at the garmin vhf300 it looks like it might fit. The dash doesn't have a lot of extra space I wish sea ray just put in a regular VHF.

Kaz, i did some research and on that transducer and do you think it matters what brand i purchase? Garmin, Airmar? The parts manual listing doesnt show a part number for a 310 with v-drive. It shows options with raymarine radar and i dont have that. I would call my local dealer but all they do is look in the parts manual like i just did. The ones i found online have the depth, temp and speed in one unit. My boat has 2 units, one in front is a speed wheel, on ebehind is depth & temp.

If it interfaces with the engine you have to get the same type. There is a part number label on the cables (or should be) but as I keep saying :) don't just throw parts at it. It might still work.

Mmt,

Sorry - I just got back on the forum today and responded to your email. Damn job keeps getting in the way of my recreation! I ended up not getting the Hurleys - yet. My RIB is too big for the swim platform and too heavy for the davits, as our platform is a good 2' off the water. I'm most likely looking to downsize the dink - probably to a Merc 250 or the BRIG air floor. Let me know how these work out for you - now you get to share!
