300 Sundancer questions.

It did give me an error code after it shuts off it gives the pressure error code. I'm going down to the boat later today to see if, all the filters are clean. I don't think its an impeller because it does push water when it first starts. Thanks Jim I may try and post this in general as well.

I would say check your lint screen on the unit itself under the front bunk. There's a small sheet filter that slides in and out vertically. Also check that your hull valve is fully open, the strainer is cleaned out, and that you don't have just partial flow coming over the side. I've run my AC on the lift a few times while working on it, and if you aren't getting a solid strong stream over the side it could be the issue. I've never had a high pressure shut down though. Try back flushing the air out by putting your dock-hose up against the water discharge port (with the AC off). That can be one way of re-priming the system if you have an air bubble or full air lock in the cooling water system.

Do you actually hear the compressor come on and run or just the fan?

Jim thank you for your help. I checked the "lint screen" and cleaned it off even though it was very dirty as well check all my sea-cocks to make sure they were fully open. Also checked the water screen and cleared any debris. It seems to be working good now. Not sure I really did one thing that worked, but maybe doing all of it fixed the issue. I took the family out this weekend for its first overnight coveing run this season, and everything seems to be in good check. I have a few minor maintenance things I need to do after the trip. But it went well. Thanks for your input!

Supposedly, a boat with twin out drives won't truly pivot in the center, the pivot point should be somewhere aft. Watch the beginning of this video. Looks close to center to me. I realize there are many variables, but I notice that my 300 pivots similar to what I'm seeing here.

So I Put a deposit down this weekend on a 2002 300!! She has 5.7 bravo 3, westerbeke 5kw generator, bow thruster, stainless windshield and many more options. The boat was very clean and showed as well cared for, canvas is two years old. Soo excited!! Not excited to own two boats but did not want this one to get away. Love the thread, a lot of good stuff here.

I am also looking at a 2006 300 but it has the 5.0MI 260h bravo 3 with no generator am I going to be under powered with this combination
I didn't find that combo underpowered. Matter of fact I didn't notice much of a difference between them and my 300hp 350mags. Maybe cruise was about 100rpm more but that is about it. Now no generator. That's a bigger deal to me.

I am never comfortable on anchor at night with tides and wind and boat traffic so I thought that I could cut that off my list my original search was for 350 mag and a generator, soo just like the tv commercial I am now just a settler but love the boat going for a test ride this Sunday survey has already been done

I had the 350's and at times I wish I had more. Many people have the twin 5.0's and said they are fine. Personal preference. If you are going for sea trial Sunday bring along a few friends (the way you would while boating) and see how she performs. If your happy, go for it and enjoy. Good luck Sunday! Brian
BTW...at some point you'll wish you had the generator.

I have the 5.0s never any trouble getting up and cruise at 30mph at 3800 rpm with full fuel, water and a family of 4 - but can always appreciate more power being better....as far as the generator is concerned, my boat is from the NE and very few 300s were delivered there with generators (became common in 320s and up) eventually I added one because of how we boated in New England (long weekends, or even a week or so at a time "on the hook"). Now that we're in Florida (where I have been told a genny is a MUST) we really don't use it much at all (and when we do its just to "exercise" it). Generally, we go "marina to marina" and for the same reason, we don't use a tender anymore either. Every system on a boat is "another mouth to feed" and while some make boating more enjoyable, some make it more complex/expensive - so try to envision how you will use your boat (sounds like you have done this) and equip it accordingly.

thanks so much for your thoughts I just love the style of the boat and the room inside and cant wait to bring it home. What do you guys figure top speed is, I had been seeing that it is about 42 mph but when the survey was done he came in at about 37mph 4900 rpm both seemed low to me

4900 rpm and and 37mph seems a bit off. Do you know if they changed the props to a different size?

I did not get all that information but I am going for a test ride on Sunday and am bringing my gps unit just to be sure I just was wondering what I should get on average-- generally in my current boat I enjoy 25mph but it is nice to know that if you need it you have enough power t get you inn a little quicker

You never want to cruise higher than 3800 - the burn goes up significantly - as I said - you should be at 29-30mph at that rpm - anything under 3500 and the boat really dosen't want to stay cleanly on plane

I have the Twin 5.0 with Bravo II package and haven't had any problems. I cruise comfortably between 3500 and 3650 rpms, and am around 24-26 kts. Full out I get over 40mph. Haven't felt the need for more power as there is more than enough in reserve when needed. Fuel burn at cruise is between 10-11gph per engine. Happy to talk with you more of you have questions.

For some, more engine is better, but not required in this case. More of a preference.
Good luck with the sea trial.

I have my sea trial next Saturday. If all goes well I will be driving her home from Clayton NY to Sackets Harbor, about 50 miles for our first run. We spend a lot of time on the St Lawrence and up through Canada so the generator was a must for us. I could have done with out the thruster with twins(I think!) but it will be nice to have when the dock is up wind for us. My only concern I still have is the bilge between the stringers where the coating is separated from the fiberglass in a couple small spots. I have read through the post here on it and it does not seem to be a huge concern, just clean, acetone, and resurface the area. Survey no mention of it. I will be paying some extra attention to the area to assure my comfort Saturday. Any final thoughts from anyone who dealt with this?

I have a small area (2" dia. maybe) of gel coat between the stringers that flaked off. It is near the drain plug; less than ideal to get at. It hasn't changed in size, and my bilge is dry during season, it doesn't concern me much.

This might help also. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/43757-HELP!-What-s-going-on-in-my-engine-compartment
