300 Sundancer questions.

I want to change out my rope/chain rode to all chain this season, 2004 300 with lofrans windlass. 150' I think should do it? I never anchor in water over 30' or so, mostly 10-15' so maybe 100' would suffice.

5/16 chain?

Any specific size, type, grade I should buy? And where us the best place to buy?

Thanks guys!

Buy what is on there now - I think it may be G4 - hardware store chain will not work with the gypsy - I would go at least 150' - try to find it local, shipping is a ***** - if not, I think defender has it....

Yes, per my 300DA parts manual the chain size is 5/16. It's about $3.30 a foot at Defender.

I just did 150' of 5/16 on my boat. We are in the same depth as you and I will be removing 50' from what I have. It tends to bunch in the locker and I don't come close to needing that much. Remember the scope for chain is much less than rope (3:1).

They put on 125' of chain at the factory, for the all chain option. For what that is worth.

Question for 300 owners. I haven't made it down to my slip this week to take some measurements, but I was thinking of installing a Garmin 7612xsv and 18XHD radar. What have you installed on your 300's? Does anyone have the measurement for the mounting area in front of the wheel? Also will I need any special mounts for the arch? Thanks!

Just sold my Wellcraft and placed a deposit on a 2003 300 Sundancer. cant wait to get back to a Sea Ray. My question is in regard to cruising speed/RPM and overall opinion of the following set up. Twin 5.0 MPI 260 hp with Bravo III drives. my last boat had the 5.7 MPI's and they did great so i am worried that i may now be under powered??? its tough to get a definitive answer out on the Googler machine so i was hoping to get some first hand knowlege. typical load is 4-6 adults 1/2 to 3/4 fuel and 1/2 to 3/4 water in the hold. i have seen reports to 23 mph cruise to 26-28 cruise.

i hope im in the right place here and Thanks for any help!

I just got my 300 last year in September, but had a bunch of work done on her first. So I didn't ge a chance to really run her. The few times I had her out for sea trial and moving to the slip, it did very well and dint seem under power. At sea trial I had four adults on board, and only one was a light weight, and 1/2 fuel and 1/2 water We managed to stay on plane around 3200 - 3400 rpm sat 24 mph and 29mph... The gph was around 9-11 at cruise. I did get it up to 4200 rpm with at max speed of 35mph, but she was guzzling 16mgh per engine. Can't wait to get it out in spring and see what she does over the season! Congrats on the 300!

We had no problems with the power from the twin 5.0MPI setup cruising quite comfortable around 3,200 to 3,400 rpm - beyond 3,500 they were quite thirsty. We had extra chain rode (around 50 meters from memory) which really assisted the balancing of the boat, making it noticeably easier to handle and get up on the plane.

Thanks for the feeback. at what speed did you cruise with that rpm range? My Wellcraft was around 26-28 in the same rpm range. different boats and set up i know but trying to find a basis

thanks again

Here is pic for you. Mine was a 02 with 5.0L MPI. Speed was 29.4MPH SOG. This is a light load. Expect to see fuel burn rates as high as 24GPH with a full load. Only issue with these boat they don't like to go slow. When it get's rough you can't slow down below (if I remember right) about 22MPH. On one of our trips to the Keys it was rough and just had to deal with it. Great boat though!

I had the 5.7l 350Mag engines in mine which were 300hp each. With full fuel and 6 adults I had to use tabs down to get on plane. Other than that similar performance to what has been posted. About 28mph at 3200-3300rpm burning about 21gph total.

Funny you should say that, I always felt it wanted to go fast as well. I always referred to our 300DA as a small "big" boat, in someways it was almost in a category of its own in terms of size and power and performance.

Similar speed, maybe a touch slower at 22 - 24mph - load dependent.

thanks again. i contacted sea ray and they said with that set up the 'ideal' cruise was determined to be 3500 rpm burning 10.9 gph. sound about right i guess

Okay Fellow Sea Ray 300 Owners. I have a 2004 Sundancer, and I took her out Tuesday for the first warm up run of the season. All was good except one thing, the air conditioner. It seems to run for about 10 minutes and outputs water, but then seems to stop pushing out water and cold air. I put it in heat and the water flows but the air does not warm up. Any Ideas?

No help for you here based on your description, but did it provide any fault / error codes on the panel? You may also want to post this in one of the more general forums, as this is not a 300 specific thing. You may get more attention to your question.

It did give me an error code after it shuts off it gives the pressure error code. I'm going down to the boat later today to see if, all the filters are clean. I don't think its an impeller because it does push water when it first starts. Thanks Jim I may try and post this in general as well.
