300 Sundancer questions.

Brian, just curious, did you buy your Silverton at American Marine at the Dubuque Yacht Basin? After we took delivery of our 300 last May in Rock Island, we overnighted there on our way to G'berg. They had several boats in their floating showroom near our transient slip. All were very nice...

Hey, nice job showing your ole Dancer to the prospective buyers. You should've got a percentage on that sale OR atleast dinner at Catfish Charlies!

Yes it was in Dubuque. I meant to pull Runberg's chain for SOMETHING free. All he had to do was accept the numbers and do the paper work. I do think they would have paid more had I not informed them of where the exact numbers were. I don't have any problem with the dealer making some money I just hate to see a new buyer walk away with his head in a bag.

I have purchased many boats from Wakeen. Always a good experience. They are good people. Did you go to the Customer Appreciation Party at Wakeens this past winter?

You need a toy boat and hit the bath tub or a swimming pool!

Lauco - congrats on the trade up...hope you won't have snow on launch day! Our forecast is for 4 inches tonight and again on Saturday :smt013

Forbidden

Talk of snow on this thread is forbidden from here on out!! Its killing my BUZZ!

By the way, I have taken your advice........ I ma now the captain of a 3" plastic boat!! haha

Congrats jcrichton74 and LauCo on your 300's. Question for the group: Did your 300DA come with a separate pole for the cockpit table or are you supposed to use the same one that you use for the cabin table? Thanks, Brian

The cabin table and cockpit table poles are two different diameters, and not interchangeable. (unless they changed after "05) In any event, you are supposed to have both.
Our dealer had to get us both, as they were omitted.

I just picked up a Garmin 498 plotter/sounder the other day for the boat. Have any of you heard any pro's or con's about this unit??

I am about to buy the same unit, if that helps you any! I am a general fan of Garmin products, but have not previously had sounder capability in the GPS.

The 498 is a 2006 unit, but the 2007's are not out yet. Not sure the 2007 units are worth waiting for. . .

Bridog - How did your orientation and delivery go? Maybe I missed your post... I hope your weather is favorable to turning the hour meters

Hi Jeff, The boat is wonderful but the delivery day was beyond freezing and very windy so we didn't get to go out for too long. I'm hoping this weekend will be better. I will post a new thread after this weekend and fill you in. Thanks for asking. By the way.. I was able to figure out how to put some pictures in the virtual marina if you want to check them out, but they are very small. I'm happy to be an "official member' of the 300DA club now. Kind regards, Brian

Brian - I hear ya about the weather...we just picked up 3 inches today...and this is April? :smt017 I checked out virtual marina, very VERY nice  I really like the placement of the Garmin unit...was that placed in there by the dealer? Very nice job with the location of the Smartview panel also. I wish for great weather for you this weekend, with the canvas down and the throttles forward

300 owners....has anyone added a TV to the cockpit? If so, what size? what type of mount?

Also, where have you guys mounted your documentation number? I have mine on a board, but have never mounted it. I can't find a "good" place in the bilge. Also, how did you attach your numbers?

Bottom Line - I mounted my doc. no. just forward of the generator. There is a nice flat spot that accomodated my board nicely, and you can see the number when the hatch is raised. I used 3M's 5200 to permanently hold it in place.

Hi Jeff, Do you have a picture? I looked real hard in my engine compartment and couldn't find any clear space for putting on the numbers or a board ( Without moving wire harnesses, water lines, ect ) I have found a spot under the forward berth that has an opening allowing numbers to be placed directly on the hull. I think I will put mine there and epoxy over the numbers with West System's epoxy. I'll try and post pics when I'm done. Kind regards, Brian

Bridog - Sorry I don't have any pictures and my boat is 2 hrs. away :smt013 I went to a trophy shop and bought a piece of white name plate stock about 4 x 16 for around $15.00 I thought about having him engrave the doc. no. on it but decided to use adheasive numbers that the Coasties sent me. Directly forward of my generator there is a flat spot on the hull that provided plenty of room to stick it down. It would've also fit on the ledge where the holding tank sits but didn't seem to practical to put it there.

I used the West System 105 epoxy (6 equally dived packets of resign and hardener) and it worked great to seal the numbers to the name plate.

I wanted it visible when the hatch was up so I didn't have to tear the boat apart to show the Coastie the boat is compliant.

Great Info, new to forum

we are not SR owners yet! contemplating purchasing a 300DA, however, wife doesn't like the fact that there is no lounge seat across from the helm bench. presently own a rinker FV265. use the boat strictly for pleasure boating, year round, not as much in winter as summer, on arkansas's lake ouachita.

have friends with SR's and they all love them.

thanks for any pro's/con's about the 300.

tawcat - Welcome to the board! Our last boat was a 270 Sundancer with the port side lounge. On extended cruises, my wife felt the sitting arrangement on this seat contributed to a stiff neck and offered no back support.

We really like the flip up bolsters on the 300's helm seat. Conversation is much easier, and the stereo speaker positions provide a decent volume level while cruising.

The only con I can think of, is that it takes me longer to wash and towl down the 300 vs. 270

If you have any further specific questions....let us know.

Hi Tawcat and welcome.
I’m a new 300 owner and can’t be on the water today due to this dang summertime nor’ easter.

We love everything about this model and think that SR has tweaked this boat over the years to about as good as it can be. The layout and space utilization is superb. I only have two comments but not complaints. The stern trunk (storage compartment) door is a bit small to easily organize and retrieve fenders, power cord and other stuff. The trim tabs do not have indicators and I understand this is standard practice with SR and not just on the 300 – but I’m sure I can get used to this with some practice.
