300 Sundancer questions.

We discussed the missing storage on the old SRO. The spot you described, did have a small storage locker on the early models. My 2005 is like your boat, but I think I remember someone with a 2002 having one. This drawing from my manual shows it and another one on the starboard. BTW it also shows two small opening deck hatches, mine don't open. These things have been de-featured.

As to your RCA jack, take a picture, I don't remember a jack there.

Thanks Stray. Yes I have the smartcraft system view. I dont know if I would have ordered the boat with it but it came that way. Sounds like you think it's a good option...right? The Horizon's are the same as you but with closed cooling. I'm not so concerern about top end but rather if the boat jumps up on plane. MPG seems pretty good for twin 350's. I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences with all the 300DA owners here and thank you all for the reply's. By the way I think the 300DA is one heck of a good looking boat...but maybe I'm a bit bias

Congrats on the new boat. I also bought mine new in Oct. (last year) and had to wait for spring to play. I have seen 47 and change on GPS but the boat is happy to run 28-30 all day long. IMO the smartcraft is one of the best features on the boat. Read up on it and learn what it can tell you and you will love it. Also we use the aft cabin as our main bed I built an 14" extention to the front of the bed and it made it a true queen except for the corner.

jrcnnh: are your smaller deck hatches square or round? Mine are round and don't open either. Not sure why they changed unless it was the cost....I would've liked a door vs. a cover to finish the cockpit off a little better.

Here's the best picture I have of the jack. It is that black dot you see on the right side of the mirror. The black dot is a dust cap.

De-featured? that must be sales speak for removed. The two small square hatches just forward of the windshield existed only on very early 2002 models. They were quickly replaced with round fixed ports that are bonded into the hull. The port storage bin behind the cockpit transom door exists on all 2002 that I have seen.

I have a 2002.

I have round ports in my cabin that don't open.

I don't have that RCA jack and have never seen it before. Looks like an add on.

I have a small locker on my port side where the transom door opens. The only thing I keep in there is the snap tool for my canvas.

I also have the cover on the starboard side next to the aft bench seat.

I added the camper top last year and did not through bolt the frame. But considering that it is easy to get under the gunwales on both sides, maybe I'll do that.

I first heard de-featured from a car dealer :smt021

I have round port that don't open, they seem to be the norm on most models now. I'm sure cost and leaking are behind the change. All my vistors, think the round light blocking pillows are clever.

I think the round ones look a lot nicer and, even though I rarely use the covers, they are a good idea. You have the big one over the Vee Berth and the other four opening ports on the sides so you really don't need those two to open.

My boat does not have a jack there. It doesn't look big enough for the standard cigarette light 12 volt jack. Just given recent trends, I'd guess it's an IPod jack.

While we're on 300 storage, has anyone improved the storage at the helm? The bin behind the cup holder is too deep and I usually lose a little skin whenever I reach in there to find something. I'm thinking about making some sort of tray. Plus why don't they put a comfortable cup holder up on the helm. That one is a PITA.

One last thing about de-featured. I went car shopping Sunday. It used to say power adjustable seats, but now a power adjustable seat, passenger side is manual. Last year it says leather seats, this year, leather seating surface, backs and sides are vinyl. Chrome wheels are now chrome clad wheels, a shiny hub cap glued on a steel wheel. Buyer beware.

The size of the jack is about that size to plug in a set of head phones for an ipod or such type of thing. I'll have to wait til spring now :smt089

I keep dock lines in the storage next to the helm. Since bugs seem to like to die there, that is about all I keep in there. I prefer to use the drink holder at the end of my arms

MNJ: Through bolt your brackets for the camper. That top can rock side-to-side in rough water boating.

Check to see if the mystery devise is not a camera installed by some service dude with a sense of humor that wanted to watch all the “funâ€. Who knows, you may be live on a web site somewhere.

Michael
Mainly for the ease of installation, I'd use nuts, washers and bolts. Other wise you have to somehow hold the wood block in place from the bottom while you screw from the top.

Personally, I wouldn't bother until you find that you need to. My factory camper top looks like it's just screwed into the fiberglass. All your other bimini brackets are just screwed in. If a screw pulls out you can always bolt it then.

jrirvine: thats funny, we'll just leave the lens cap on

MNJ: if your screws were quite long, and have a snug fit, it should be ok as jrcinnch advises. If you had to, I'd use flat washers with locking nuts as I'm not sure there is much of a flat surface under there to place a backing plate....

Since we are close to the time of year for trimming things....

Once you're up on plane, and at your normal crusise speed, how much do you trim out your drives ?

When you trim the drives, do they both trim up at the same angle?

I've noticed my port drive lags behind according to smart view.

I assume that might be normal as they are on seperate trim pumps.

I had the same outdrive trim questions when I got my 300 this spring. I found that I could not apply much trim without problems. Some of the same guys here helped me (albeit on a different web site).

Tuck your drives all the way in until you're on plane. Then you can trim them out a tiny bit. Mine seldom takes more than a "1" on Smartcraft. Anymore and cavitation, you will hear it, or porpoising, you will feel it, will occur.

I never noticed much of difference side to side, but they're never perfect.

"RCA Type Jack"

I am new to this site and not sure if I am doing this post correctly. I am trying to post a reply to someones question about the "RCA Jack" That jack is the auxillary input to your stereo. You can plug just about anything with sound into that jack. I use it for my Ipod, but any MP3 player would work. The cable should be in your owners pack. It is a black cable with headphone style male ends on both ends. If you can't find it in the owners pack just about any electronics store will carry it. To use it just plug one end of the cable into the headphone out put of any MP3 player, then plug the other end into that input next to your mirror. Next switch your stereo to auxillary and your off and running. It works great, but sea ray could have put it in a better location- like in the cabinet where the stereo is. Hope this helps.

Mike,
When I installed flush mounted rod holders, I drilled with a hole saw through the top of the gunwales, just forward of the fuel fills. It is at least 3/4" thick marine grade plywood, encapsulated in fiberglass top and bottom.
You won't need any backing plate for a camper top frame.
A cleat yes, a canvas frame, no. Just self tapping SS screws, coated in 4200.

culrich: First, welcome to the board  and congratulations on the 07 too

Thanks for the confirmation on what that jack is used for. I'll look through my cables as you mentioned. I often wondered what some of them were for...
