300 Sundancer questions.

Yup.....my TV is mounted on a folding swing arm forward of the cabinet. The TV can face any direction and I like the setup. Funny thing, I just bought a 22" LED-LCD TV last night to replace the 14" one you see in the pic. The 22" set is only about an inch wider than the 14" but smaller in all other dimensions......technology is great. The cabinet that houses factory TVs is large and I'm glad I have it to use. About the table.....I think a curved one could actually look better

Yes we use ours all the time. But we bought a self coiling hose and attached it to the water spigot that's in the transom compartment. Works great! Actually it's long enough to double as a anchor wash down when really needed.[/QUOTE
I finally got around to this Mod last weekend - used all of the original parts - the only hard part was getting up the nerve to cut the hole - I also disasembled the sprayer - after removing the center screw 3 pieces nest together and they were partially clogged.......also the "neck" where the water turns to go into the head was partially blocked by slag (from the manufacturing process) I now have great pressure and it is much more convenient to use and store the hose - searay and most other manufacturers mount it this way on other models - I can't figure out why they put it where they did on the 300View attachment 20293

Apologies in advance for bringing up a potentially old topic, but I got a Magma Newport grill and now I'm having trouble. Based on the posted dimensions on Magma's site, I thought it would fit under the aft-facing seat in the cockpit. When I tried to store it there, it comes within about 1/2 an inch of closing, but the seat ends up resting on the handle for the grill's lid. I've tried every which way to settle that thing in there, but with no luck. The only place I can find that it will fit is under the fwd bunk. Concern there is that once I've used it a few times, I'm worried that it's going to have that grill smell all the time, even if I kept it well cleaned.

I've searched the thread here, and several folks talked about where to mount it... but nothing about where you store your grills. Would be interested in revisiting the topic if you all will indulge me :) I was thinking about using a clamp on rod holder and the level lock mount as someone suggested. Also think this one might work to mount it on one of the camper canvas poles (not for underway, just while cooking).

I searched the 280 thread and there are some good ideas where people have made brackets or boxes to store them in the bilge. Looks like there may be room in the 300 if it sits on top of the batteries or the generator. Has anyone tried this on a 300?

Lastly, since the newport hasnt been used yet, it can go back to west marine. If that ends up being the solution, looks like the Kettle 2 might fit under the seat. We had an original gas kettle model without the hinges, but we could never cook on the thing because of big flare ups and super high heat (when on low). Unless of course, "blackened" is your favorite metod for cooking. Does anyone have the kettle 2 and/or provide a good review of it? Looks favorable on WM reviews, but just skiddish after my experience with the old one.

Thanks
James

Does anyone know how the blower vent covers on the aft port and starbord gunwhale are secured? Both of mine are loose, I think from the previous owner letting the bumpers press on them.

Just a quick update. I ended up using "Life Seal" made by boat life. It worked great after gently lifting up the covers and cleaining out the old adhesive. Some blue tape to hold them in place while drying, a little wet rag action to make sure there was no residue left anywhere after applying the life seal, and the covers are solidy attached again. May look into attaching them more permanently with small screws countersunk an filled, but for now I think they are back to spec.

Idindntdoit - That is the perfect location for the transom shower.

James - You are right about the grill smell. We kept our original Magma under the dinette seat until the smell develped. We now stow it under the helm seat. I'm no help on the Newport, hopefully others will chime in.

Hey!.....clever. Would it have mounted with the hinges on the opposite side as well? Just curious.

Ididntdoit, Great spot for the transom shower and looks good too! Did you cover the hole in the transom locker?
Thanks - I actually removed the entire "false" panel a while back - I never had a need for the city water inlet (I use the tank) or the hose bib and it made my lazarette that much bigger - I could always add it back in and I guess make a new one out of starboard (that is what the original is made of) without the hole.

Has anyone had to change the fuel sending unit for the 2002-2007 300 Sundancers? My fuel gauge is reading full all the time on the port side. Our mechanic has checked the smart craft gauges and they appear to be ok. The problem I see is the clearance from the top of the fuel tank to the bottom of the cockpit sole is very tight. I would expect the sender to reach the bottom of the tank therefore the sender may be a real challenge to get the unit in/out. Has anyone has the sending unit out? I'm hopeful Sea Ray used a technology different from the old float method. Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated.

Hey Diamond....good timing on the post as I have been looking into this one myself. Neither of my fuel gauges are accurate but the starboard one is alarming low somewhere around a half tank. I tried to recalibrate it in Smartcraft with no success. I have been using the "fuel used" gauge to keep track of my level. The last time I searched the forum I found that folks were replacing the sender with two different options. One is a flexible sender that allows you to bend it while being installed and the other is a ultra sonic sender. Both of the units can be found here http://usmarineproducts.com/index.php?cPath=46

I haven't researched sizes or preference yet so let me know if you find out more and no, I haven't pulled mine out yet, the sender that is.

I replaced my starboard tank probe last month. If you turn it the right way it will come out. I still don't know if its accurate yet as I don't top off for weekend trips. We will be getting ready for a big trip in July and will fill the tanks and adjust the float if needed this weekend. Overall not a bad job and used factory parts. Cost was less than $90 delivered to house.

Kevin, what's your strategy then on the weekends? Do you keep it at 1/2 tank or 2/3 tank to keep the weight down? And then just replace what you use? How do you determine what you use? We fill our tanks at the beginning of each weekend or sometimes more often just because I'm paranoid on fuel usage.

Also, our stb tank reads 7/8 full after a fillup...drives me a bit nutty :)

I have been keeping my tanks around 1/4 to keep weight down for weekend stuff. Weight cost money. If I tanker around fuel I don't need I see it as a waste. Does it make a big difference? My guess is no, but that's just me. For me working on and being around commerical aircraft I may be more aware than most. I'll put it like this, Boeing 757 flys to lax with x amount of fuel from atl your not going to put the same amount to go tpa. Yes you would not need to refuel for a return trip but the extra weight cost more to move than necessary. I try to get non-ethanol fuel for the water issues and also the marina requests not to have full tanks for rack stored boats because the fuel will expand and can spray out of the vents onto lower boats. I do close calculations on fuel useage as not to run out but do come back in sometimes pretty low on fuel like last week when the weather is good. I try to put on only what I will use for that outing. Hope this helps.

Same problem here. Port reads full all the time. Mechanics say this is common on SR's. They already replaced it out twice for me, and it's still not working. Very frustrating!

Bridog, I'm curious. When the mechanic replaced the senders, did the gauge read properly at first or did it read full from the start? I was speaking with my local SR dealer and the SR is out of stock so I'll be waiting 2-4 weeks unless I can find another supplier.

Brian, It would seem, that if they've replaced it twice then maybe it's something different than the sender. It would seem they could test this by just attaching the sender wires to the new sender, outside of the tank and moving the float arm manually and see if the gauge reacts. Maybe it's the gauge itself or a grounding issue. Maybe a new mechanic is needed.

Wow, I get frazzled when my tanks get around 1/2! I can't imaging going out with a 1/4. I really need to get my fuel meters installed so I can have more peace of mind. We usually top off water as well.. In looking at your picture of your boat sitting in the water, mine sits lower (within around 1/2" of lower stripe). I do have the 350mags, but not sure how much weight difference that makes. It's probably our full tanks!

Guys,
Do you have water come in your transom door when you come to a quick stop after being on plane? For starters, it seems the 300DA swim platform is closer to the water than many boats. It always makes me think that the swim platform is going to drag in the water, but of course as soon as it's on plane, it rises quite a ways up. But when we come off plane, we can see a pretty big wave come over our swim platform and come in the back and up the carpet a couple of feet. We never noticed it until this past weekend when Chris was sitting looking aft when I came to a stop. We're both usually sitting up front but this past weekend my youngest son was out with us.
After noticing this we are trying to keep from coming off plane so abruptly and giving it a bit of gas to keep that wave behind us until is dissipates.
