Hello this is my first post on this forum. Just bought this boat and was wondering where to buy the garbage container that belongs under the step and the head door handle is missing one side. Also would like to install the Garmin 540 but just not sure where. If anybody has some good ideas and pictures PLEASE HELP. Also pictures of other cool additions to thier boat eg. table at the rear. Thank you

hey wesly--I just bought a 2000 270. What garage container are you talking about? I have none under my step. My sump pump and air conditioner pump is in there.

thanks

On mine there is plastic garbage can that sits in the pocket where you lift the stair up. It is suspended on its flange. Great use of this space by Sea Ray. Pull it out and you have access to your shower sump as you already know. I do not know if it is a standard size or something special. I will try to get pics this weekend if you like.

Art,

yours must be missing too.. They all have one, 250, 270, 280..

I've got the trashcan on mine. Did not find it until we had owned the boat for probably a month or more. I am not sure if it is a standard size or not.

I too have been looking at adding GPS the garmin 535 was the one I was thinking about because I am in the Tennesse River. I probably really do not need it but I enjoy the lowrance on the pontoon. I will not install until next year but if I get it going before you I will be sure to take pics.

thanks midway but they do not have a owners manual for a 1998 270 Sundancer Special Edition to be downloaded...............any ideas?

They had a 'General Cruiser' manual that was used for all of the smaller cruisers. It's very non-specific but you might find something useful.

Your boat, 1998 270SE is virtually identical to the 1994-1997 270DA so any data you find about one of those will likely apply to yours as well.

In 1998 Searay introduced a newer wider 270DA. But there was still a demand for the older 270 in part because of its 8½ foot beam (legally trailerable in most states). So they kept the boat in the lineup but renamed it the SE. They offered it in 98 and 99 and then permanently dropped it.

Hello, there is a place on the other side of the river that carries the trash can in stock...they may also have the head door handle...My dealer: Colony Marine in Saint Clair Shores...look 'em up...they are really helpful people and they are one of the few independent Sea Ray Ambassador dealers.:smt001

Hello, your 270SE has only a few differences from the pre-98 versions. One deck hatch instead of two, fabric headliner in leiu of a vinyl headliner. A smaller base engine, optional equip that was std. in 97'

You cant see your gas gauge with it there. Did you think of any other area to install it?

Oh yes, I spent a lot of time looking for THE place to mount it. But since there was no desginated spot from the factory, any choice is going to be a compromise.

Its hard to tell from the pic, but the GPS is mounted about 10-12 inches forward of the gauges. So, in reality it only takes a slight head movement to see the gas gauge. And of all the gauges, that would seem to me to be the least important to have full-time sight of.

wesley--I was in Walmarts today and I found a trash can that fits under the step that you were talking about. It was in the bathroom section.

I removed the unit for the winter - but I was under the cover tonight and took pic's of where its mounted on my boat - I have the Garmin 2006c. I decided to mount it past the gages and later I ended up adding a speaker for my Vhf to the mounting bracket so I did not need to add more holes. The GPS has an external antenna and I routed the wire thru the weep hole under the windshield and mounted the antenna on the starboard rail.

I have had several Chaparral boats and 1 Wellcraft. this is my first Sea Ray and I just can't believe where they got their design engineers. I think Sea Ray has the worse layout on a boat. Boats this big and can't even find a descent spot for a gps. then in my cabin there is very little storage. the storage in all the cabinets except 1 are not even high enough to store an aresol can setting upright. Heck can even set a tall glass in them. What were these dumb engineers thinking?
