So, planning a few trips for the upcoming season and was thinking about trailering the boat to Myrtle Beach then hitting up Charleston and Savannah over a week-long trip. Do I have to be concerned using the 260 to do this? Too small even if I stick near the coast?

Like Chris said, plenty big for the ICW. Just consult Active Captain for the shallow spots at low tide between Myrtle and Savannah. Namely McClellanville and Isle of Palms north of Charleston and the Ashepoo-Coosaw Cut entering the Coosaw River north of Beaufort.

Do your research on the "Rock pile" section of the ICW thru Myrtle Beach. At low tide you can see the danger, but at high tide the rocks are covered up. This section bit myself and a couple of other club members on a trip thru there one year. Stay in the middle of the channel.

It's plenty fine. We're looking at doing something very similar this spring... we'll trailer to Myrtle then cruise down to Charleston for the weekend. We normally would run the entire distance from Wrightsbville Beach to Myrtle but I'de rather spend an extra day in Charleston Harbor instead of the time doing the ditch from WB to MB.

Anyone know how long it will take to go from Charleston to Savannah?

So you are asking about the ICW? If so, you should have no prob... If you were planning on going offshore, I'd reconsider.

As far as time, it will be variable depending on weather and traffic. I wouldn't even run the ICW during the weekend. Lots of captains drinking...

I've run from Savannah to Charleston in 6 to 8 hours. It just depends on how hard you want to run. In my 240, 6 hours. In my 360 7.5, but we also were running between two large storm systems and were in one system that was so bad that we couldn't see the bow of our boat.

cool. thanks, guys.

we just went over the schedule last night. somehow we got signed up for all these obligations i wasn't aware of. now we don't have time to do the savannah-charleston trip. guess we're just going to put in at Manteo and stick around OBX. darnit!

Never did it. :/ going to Mantel instead.

Once I took my 290 from Miami down to just above Key Largo running just offshore. When I got home, I put that boat up for sale.

If you like beer, go to the Craftsman.... I've only been to Charleston once (last Summer/Fall one week before the floods) and that was my favorite place.

carry on

To the original question: Yes the 260 is a great boat for the ICW. The trim you describe from Myrtle to Charleston to Savannah is a great one! Leave an extra few days in the schedule to stick around Charleston and then Hilton Head.
