I am in the process of purchasing a 1999 260 sundancer the engine is a 5.7L carb with a bravo two. Does anyone have the same engine in their boat and what am I expecting for performance, cruising range, MPG. Is their anything else I should know about the boat or be aware of?

Thank you

Well, our boat has the 5.7 but with EFI, and we have the Bravo III so I'm not sure how relevant our numbers are, but performance is adequate (we'd like more power, but who except JV II doesn't?), and we burn about 9 gph. There isn't enough power to ski behind the boat, but we do fine tubing. Time to plane is about 15 to 20 seconds.

Ditto,

The 5.7 is a good engine, with adequate power. An experienced wakeboard can get up, but its a long time to plane.

You need to look around and under the engine, and the bottom of the bilge for any oil leaks, greasy stuff, and any blue puffs coming out of the water from the exhaust.

Is it freshwater cooling, or a closed system, and what do you find when a drain cock is opened...?

Hope the helps a bit.

I've been happy with mine. I can slalom ski behind it and it pulls me up just fine - tubing, wakeboarding and 2 skiis are even easier. It comes up onto plane with minimal bow rise -- I can stay seated and never lose sight of the water. If you keep the drive down and use the tabs, it's actually pretty quick to plane. I've never timed how long it is, but honestly, I don't think it's anywhere near 15 or 20 seconds. I would say under 10. But again, I've never timed it. I just know that 15 to 20 seconds is quite a long time. I push the throttle forward, and it's really only a few seconds (maybe 4 or 5) until I start pulling back.

I haven't used the boat on long enough trips to comment about GPH.

I would expect the B2 to be just a little slower out of the hole than the B3 - but I've never driven one to give an honest comparison. However, I wouldn't avoid buying the boat because of the B2.

I like mine and think it's a very economical power plant for this boat. I also have the EFI.It's a cruiser not a ski boat. Yes you can tow a tube or drag a wakeboarder, but any skier will not like the wake compared to a comp boat. Are your sure this one you are looking at is a carbed?

Yes, let me clarify my statement a bit... You can slalom behind it... crossing the wake (at speed) does require your undivided attention. :smt001

It is the carb and bravo II, what am I expecting for cruising speed and top end and mpg Thank you

My guess is that cruising speed will be very similar to those of us with 5.7EFIs. I cruise at 3500RPM @ 26 knots(30MPH). You will just burn more fuel (1-3 GPH) and may need another 100 RPM.

For this boat the 350 Mag MPI, with Bravo 3 is the way to go. With the genset and all other weight thrown in, mine needs it.

As far as the engine is concerned, no clue. I realize you didn't ask about the drive, but here is my 2 nickles.

I have the Bravo 2 and it is excellent. Maintenance is a breeze (i.e. gear lube changes), I like the larger wheel, she gets up and goes. Only draw back I think I notice is that between my buddies Crownline 255 runabout that has a B 3 and my boat is that his seems to track a little better in reverse. I don't have any experience with a B3 in a 260 except for a test run I did once.

I have read around this site that some guys with 260's trim the max out of their B3's when on plane. I appear to get the best trim out at the 3/8 hash mark. I am sure trim settings have alot to do with your boats weight, make, prop pitch, bow rise, etc., but I am a fan of the B2 drive and it's great for me. Seems to have excellent push/power to get me where I am going.

Hey Andy--
I was talking to you about buying your 215 EC. I see you are getting into a 260...cool. I ended up buying a 240 myself. Picking it up in a couple weeks. Hope you have fun with the 260. Chris

A little over 2 mpg at around 25 mph. This is the economical version of the boat, engine wise. Do you like power? This isn't it. Do you bring a lot of people and gear? Not the best engine choice. This should be a bargain buy unless perfect. If you travel alone or with just 2, and like to go long distances, this is a great combo.

Re: 260 with a 7.4

Just about to take the plunge a purchase a 260 Sundancer for Lanier. This boat has been in the water since new. How long generally before the bottom needs to be repainted? How much of an issue is Osmotic Blistering? Probably have to take it out of the water for a good look see obviously.
