260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

The windlass has never been a common option on the 260 as far as I know. However, I think that the wiring is already there so this is an easy add by the dealer. If I had it to do over again, I would add the windlass and the electric stove.

Do a search for a 260 and trim on this site - there is a good thread on it where Dave did a good write-up. The trim issues are a characteristic of the 2005+ 260's, which has a different hull than the <2004's.

Transom shower was not an option in 04 - can't help you there. Neither was a GPS - I simply added a Garmin 492 (I think that is the model).

Good day all.

I am currently looking at a 2011 260 Sundancer with a 350 MAG and Bravo III. It seems to have been ordered without the windlass, and transom shower, or GPS/Chartplotter. Why? I have no idea. I sea trialed the boat and it seemed a little under powered and difficult to trim. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it just me and I'm not used to the tallness of the cruiser? Or is this boat just a pig with this engine combo?

Jester....

I put a windlass on mine & I have the 350 BIII and have no problems. Not sure about the 2011, but 2005+ takes a bit to get used to at first. THis boat sits high and therefore in high winds you have to stay on the trimtabs to keep her level. Also, if someone moves in the cockpit. It is just one of those quirks that every boat has. If I were you I would go after a mid 2000 280. Youare going to pay twice as much for that 260 for what you could get a 04,05, or 06 280, which is a much nicer boat.

THe control wiring might be there, but the motor wiring is not!

Hello All.

Just another newbie around.
Upgrading to 260 Sundancer 2006. Any recommendation/suggestions???
Anything particular on the engine (350 Mag Mercruiser, 119Hrs), planning to do a full service on it and this is my first inboard so any comment is highly appreciate.
Thank you

Hi All:

Does anyone know where you can purchase the white disks (approx 6"-8") that are on the arch. Somehow on our holidays someone bumped one of them and cracked it. I would like to replace it.
Thanks
Bill

H all, I would just like to thank you all for a very informative thread especially Dave S. I am in the process of buying a 2006 260DA. I went for a sea trial a few weeks ago and was taken aback and sadly disappointed by the acute lean when planing. I was not at all impressed and was contemplating giving it a miss even though it had the best layout available etc for that size of boat. However after a quick internet search I found this thread. I realised that this model had a peculiar way of trimming. I requested a second sea trial and tried Dave S recommendations and it worked a treat. The boat responded as should be expected. However I would like to know what its like a slightly rough seas as I boat from Gibraltar ( Europe)

Depends what you mean by "slightly rough seas", which direction you're running them in and their period? In a light chop (less than 1 meter) I like to run bow down. In my configuration the 496 makes me a bit heavy aft. So I'll use the trim tabs to plant the bow into the waves and let the V-Hull smooth the ride out for us at around 24 knots. In a larger sea I'll slow it down and let the boat sit in the water at about 14 knots and just roll with it. I have been out in 2 to 2-1/2 meter seas that were kicked up like a washing machine agitator. I don't look forward to those times, but the boat does handle as well as can be expected (like a cork in the ocean) when needed.

Thanks ChuckW for info. Does using trim tabs to lower the bow make the boat lean unpredictably?

Eventually you can deploy the tabs to the point where you'll get bow steer going...once you've gotten familiar with the particulars of the boat, it's never a problem to manage and fine tune your running attitude to where its most comfortable for the situation.

I had a Windlass installed on my 2007 260 this summer. Cost was less than $1,000, I continue to be able to store bumpers for the bow in the anchor locker and remain thoroughly satisfies with my decision and the Windlass itself.

A/C fresh water strainer It is not immediately apparent to me how one removes the strainer from the housing. The only thing I can see are 4 bolts that screw in from the bottom up. Anyone know how to get the strainer separated?

Loosen the four wing nuts and the top brass lid will come off. Make sure the valve is closed before you remove the lid. The strainer has a loop in the top, just pull it out, clean and put back in.

I installed one as well. Very happy with mine except for the rope portion, I found a good price on chain and ordered 125 feet so I don't have to worry about rope anymore.

I beleive my 260 has a Groco strainer in it and at first glance I drew the same conclusion that you have drawn. But removal is simply done by unscrewing the top of the strainer. I do know the strainer that is shown in my owner's manual does not look like the one installed in my boat. For sure it is not like the one described by Hellman Huddle so you may have the same one that I do. When re-installing the top, put some silicone paste on the rubber "O" ring (do not use Vaseline).

Hi fellas, I haven't been here in a while, just got back from AFG.
I'm sure I can find it in a threat, but I'm in a rush. Have anyone used a Honda EU2000 generator to power their AC? Is it possible?

Thx

Hi guys,
New 260 boat owner, has anyone used ablative paint on the bottom and their experience with it?

Thanks,
dave
