260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

I am contemplating installing a grill on the transom bar with rod holder, suggestions? Looking at Magmas but not sure which one, do like the rectangular ones though...

I have a rectangular Magma pedestal mounted. The base is mounted on the stern side of my swim platform so it does not interfere with the swim ladder, transom storage lid, or the camper canvas. We often put it up when we arrive and leave it in place all weekend. Love it!

I had the rectangular one as well, I think it was called the Cabo??? I bought the rail mount clamp for it with the intention of putting it on the grab bar on the transom locker. The unfortunate part is the the way the rail mount works, you have to sort of spin a handle to tighten up the clamp and it was next to impossible to spin the handel all the way around to tighten it up. It could be done, but it wasn't exactly easy. Since we didn't want to leave the grill up all the time it was more trouble than it was worth for us so we just used it up on the bow... much easier to put up and take down. Now if you're going to leave it up all the time then you certainly can put on the transom locker, opening the grill and heat clearance and such would be fine, it's just a PITA to put up.

I preferred not to put in on he transom cabinet bar because of getting around. I am putting in a Scotty striker flush mount and ordering the mount holder that they have for this specific rod holder. Going to put them on both sides of the boat. There are quite a number of accessories that will fit this rig ... rod holders, tables, etc. I may decide to add an extender arm to the rig to get the grill a bit further away from the canvas ... also, you can buy a Scotty vertical holder that I am considering mounting in the engine room so I have a place to store the unit. (Yes, take propane off and store elsewhere!)

Re: insurance claim

Hello! New member. I have had sea rays for 10 years. I've owned my 2006 260 for 4 years. Two months ago, the raw water exhaust hose blew and before I knew it the hold filled up with 18 inches of water. Progressive has been very good about this claim and has spent about 15k replacing parts. No water in engine or gen. Because I had not had a claim ever (over twenty years ...) no deductible. Some people refer to it as "lift sunk".

i have put on the sea dek product and chose to do some additional service items while the engine was pulled. The guys from marine max said it was a gift from Poseidon. All I know is I am much more willing to spend a bit on this vessel knowing that so much has been updated. I take very good care of my boats, but at ten years ...

At first, people said tough luck, but I called the insurance company just to be safe. The key in any claim ... once you have made sure everyone is safe, take pictures when bad stuff happens.

fender storage

I explored using stainless steel mounts that clamp to the bow rail, but decided that the anchor locker was a better solution. One trick ... if you have two fenders, tie the whips together with a square knot so that once you grab one, you will have both. This saves having to really dig down into the locker and the square knot realeases easily.

Anyone put a "door" into the forward vberth compartment like the side vberth compartments? That section is a PITA to get to when the bed is up. Would be nice to drop a hatch and grab something from in there. Can't imagine it's that hard, nor that I'm the only one to think of it.

Purchased Aquatik shower kit. We want to place by platform for warm water shower-offs after beach. Looking for placement ideas. Anyone have a factory installed or installed one yourself? Was thinking on port side transom...but when transom door is opened...it wouldn't be accessible.

Not that you have to do it this way, but Sea Ray put them on the "walk thru" vertical wall between the platform and the cockpit. On the port side. The door opens inwards so it won't cause an issue.

Can you elaborate on what you're asking? I'm in my cabin right now and the only place I can think of that you want to put doors are the open cubbies above the backrest in the V berth.

The compartments under the seating. There is a wooden door to each of the side compartments for accessing them without removing the seats, but the only way to access the forward storage under the vberth triangular seat is by removing the seat.

Ahhh... That makes sense. I just didn't visualize that from what you wrote. It should be very easy enough to do. The most difficult part seems like it would be removing the carpet to get it out of the way before you can cut the hole. That stuff is super glued to everything. I've made a few small pieces of trim out of real cherry wood finished with clear Deft lacquer, and after a few months the color matches the faux cherry that Sea Ray used exactly. Making the door and having it match the rest of the interior would be a piece of cake. If your not worried about cost, just use 5/8" (it might be 1/2") thick solid cherry. If you want to go with a cheaper solution, use some cherry plywood with iron on cherry edge banding. Apply some clear lacquer (not polyurethane as it tends to yellow over time) and let the piece sit in the sun for a few days to speed the darkening of the cherry. I'm sure the latch and hinge are easy to get.

My only reservation would be that with the bed in place, would you be able to reach it? I don't think my arms are long enough to reach that wall, and certainly not long enough to reach inside of any opening in that area to be able to grab anything.

gents one question : does a 2006 260 have the same cabin height like a 2006 240 ? i have a 240 and consider trading it for a 260 , i would appreciate a more roomy cabin .

thanks

Kind of a mute point now though, since I sold her.

But, we keep the bed up all the time. Would be nice to access that area while crawling under.

Thanks skibum.

Oh, and we might want to come check out your marina this season. Long Beach undergoing a number of changes.

I just checked out Long Beach's web page. Sounds like a major upgrade. I assume that you are leaving because of the 3 year disruption? They mentioned upgrading the restaurant. If memory serves, The restaurant is currently being managed by someone other than the marina. Will they be taking control of it back from whomever is currently operating it?

Our marina has undoubtedly the best location on the upper Bay. Everything is convenient, with a very small no wake zone that is just the length of "The Cut" behind Pleasure Island. As with any marina, there are positives and negatives. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I'll be glad to give you the scoop. If you do decide to drop by, just ask folks for "Pirate Mike", we've got several Mikes including one of the owners, so most of us have nicknames. Thank God I didn't get "Crazy Mike". Lol... He's a good guy, though...

Before purchasing our 240, my wife and I looked at the 260 and the difference between cabins is pretty minimal. I believe the cabin height on the 260 may have been an inch or so taller.

Any reason why you're not looking at the 280?

thanks david !

well , i,m at a very small marina with boxes limiting boat size to a 26 footer and i want to keep it trailerable . the 260 seems to be the very edge in both . with a 280 i give up the trailer option and also my marina .

i generally like my 240 but searay makes little space out of the footprint . a buddy has a maxum 2400se and it has more freeboard with more space in cabin , as well the cockpit seats are convertible .

on the other hand the optical design of my 240 is more "sexy"

so the freeboard waterline - forward deck on a 240 and 260 is virtually the same ?

Isn't that area where the water tank is located?

IIRC, there is more room overall in the 260 but it's exactly cavernous; standing room in front of the galley is really a 1 person affair. I'm 5'10" and have ample headroom in the cabin. There's probably 6'2" clearance.

The head is a different story. The combination of it being raised up from the cabin sole, the curve of the hull and the deck means the headroom in there is only about 5'6" at best. It's my biggest disappointment with the hull.
