240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

I have a 2005 - 240SD and looking to install a Garmin/Airmar B150 thru hull transponder.

Once the boat was hauled out the shop found out the OEM 'ducer was a 20 degree tilt on my 2005.

Anyone interested in a custom made Sunbrella Bow tent for a 08 240 SD.
Look at my photo album for pictures of it.
I sold my boat about 4 years ago and just realized I still have the Bow tent. It is in like new condition and has not been used since 2010.
It is very well made and would like for this tent to get used instead of just sit in my basement.
If interested PM me with an offer or for more information.

Sent you a PM

Hi everyone,

I am new to Sea Ray and new to the US.
I just bought a left over brand new 2015 240 Sundeck.
List price was $82,368 with options. We settled on $49,500 including prep and tax. Is such a large discount normal or did I get very lucky?
What is normal depreciation on these boats?
Additionally it has the Merc 4.5l V6 with 250hp, will this be enough power for the boat? I assume this is the reason it didn't sell for list. What can you expect top end?

Thanks for any feedback

I think I'm going to add a second battery to my boat. There's already a switch (on/off) for the single battery in the same compartment as the battery which I figured I would just replace with something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K2MCR2/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

Or maybe go with this:

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a tray/bracket/etc to secure the second battery? Not looking for anything fancy.. .just something that works well and is easy to install

I forgot to quote thelimey.
Congratulations on your new boat. You could introduce yourself in the who's who forum.
That does sound like a good discount and I would also expect it is related to the horsepower. What drive is on it? I don't have experience with that exact model but for some sort of reference my sd 220 has 260hp v8 engine and alpha 1 drive just hits 50mph in the right conditions. I would expect mid 40s from your set up being a bit bigger. The advantage of the v6 seems to be in the hole shot, not top end. Do you have enough power? That depends on how you will be using it. Cruising and occasional tubing, yes. A lot of wake boarding or waterskiing, you'll be wishing for more. Mine has 'enough' power but barely. Getting a skier up takes a little longer than I would like but I'm usually pretty loaded up.
Sundecks are a great boat. Enjoy and welcome to the club.

Cheers, hopefully I did ok and wont be upside down with it for a while. Quite a chunk of change to drop for me.
If it will do 45mph that should be sufficient for the small lake we will use it on.
It has the Merc Bravo 3 drive if that makes a difference.
I doubt we would ever have more than 6 on board, more often than not just the wife and me.
General runabout use getting to swimming spots, hanging out, paddleboard etc. Maybe some tubing and would try to wakeboard behind it but I don't expect it to be ideal for this.
I was going to buy a new Yamaha AR240 as they come with 360hp, wakeboard tower, trailer etc as standard but the Sea Ray is a much better quality built boat imo.

Gas gauge stopped working last summer's final outing and we ran out of gas before we noticed the needle was stuck near full. Actual gauge seems okay, so suspect wiring or float control/sender. Brief examination gave me no clue as to access method. I see no obvious access portal to tank. Almost looks as if you need to remove engine and slide tank into the motor well to gain access. Surely there is a better method...

If you can recommend a method to gain access to the wiring harness at the sender assembly, I certainly would appreciate any tips or recommendations as I would like to get on this task after I finish up the income tax obligation. It is getting close to Spring launch time. Thanks for any and all help.

The fuel tank sender unit is accessible under the stern table mount plate. Remove the plate and you'll see the fuel tank sender mounted right below that opening.

Thank you very much, Slrademacher. That is a very welcome piece of information. I will be digging into this later this week, weather permitting, as I prep the boat for the season. Hoping for corroded connections as culprit (cheap fix), but acknowledge it could be the sender assembly (more $$$). I have good manuals on the Mercruiser engine and sterndrive, but not much literature/manuals on the Sea Ray hull and accessories.

Hi All,

My family and I picked up a 2007 240SD back in August and so far love it! She has a brand new 383 Stroker with all 10 hours put on by us. With the new boating season upon us we have already planned a trip to the Keys (Hawks Cay @ Duck Key) as well as up the St. Johns from Lake Monroe. The freshwater trips I am comfortable with as I grew up on the St. Johns. It is the saltwater endevour that has me wanting to be as prepared as possible. We are going down with a group of friends that all have deep Vs and have made trips to the Keys in the past so I know that I will have experience around me. I have also rented boats out of Captiva Island before. I am somewhat nervous with the draft on our boats being around 40-45". Anyone make a trip down to the Keys in their 240? How did it go? Did you feel it was worth it and what equipment did you have on your vessel (i.e. Chartplotter, Transom mount depth sounder)? I have tried to search this thread but wasn't very successful (probably user error).

Thanks in advance for the tips and advice. If a new thread would be best then I can do so, just let me know.

Hello All,
I'm in the process of downsizing from a 330 Sundancer to a 08' Sundeck 240 with a 350Mag and Bravo 3 Outdrive. I'm having trouble finding any sort of maintenance schedule or yearly/hourly "recommended maintenance" for this engine and outdrive. It has 100 freshwater hours and I am having it surveyed prior to purchase.

My primary questions are what maintenance should have been performed prior to purchase and what maintenance should be performed yearly? The boat will continue to be used in freshwater and I will likely put about 30 hours a year on her. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Bill

Congrats on your new boat! I have the same setup. We put 50-70 hours a year on it, and currently have just over 700 hours on the motor. I'm sure others will chime in here as well, but my routine is fairly simple. Every fall, I have it winterized before layup. This involves changing oil and filter, drain and fill with anti freeze, fog engine and add some gas treatment. Also check drive lube for water, change lube, and grease gamble bearing. I leave the batteries installed and plugged into a trickle charger. This service costs $250-$300 depending on this year and what semi annual service was done.

Every other year, I get a new water pump impeller, and every other year a new fuel filter. My engine has the filter in the fuel pump, some engines have a remote that is easier to change.

In the spring we give it a good wash and wax, and vinyl treat the seats.

My mechanic leaves all plugs in and hoses connected, spring engine work involves starting it and letting it idle a bit until the fogging oil burns out. Then off we go.

What is the largest GPS/Chartplotter (5" or 7") that will fit below the windshield on a 2008 Sundeck? Any opinions or pictures would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Garmin 54dv (5") to the left of my compass on my 2005 Sundeck 240. It is at an angle due to the shape of the dash. Not fancy but works for me and I can see the info. It does throw of my compass a bit being that close.

Will try and snap a pick for you.

I also have the garmin 54dv on my 2008 sundeck. It is probably in the same spot as bark615's. To the left of the compass. I have a pic where you can zoom in to see it but the file size is to big. If you want I can email it to you. I can also try to get a better pic over the weekend.

Thank you, I sent you a PM with my e-mail address. Do you think there is any chance a 7" screen would fit in that space?
