240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Launched today and spent most of the day cleaning the boat and checking out the systems. Went for a quick ride, one adult and low on fuel and the 6.3l engine is a beast. Didn't push it past 4000rpm but this boat feels very nimble. I gotta figure out that smartcraft thing, I'd like to reset the fuel usage so I can see what I burn this season.

At times the boat feels small and others big. Love all the storage can see this boat bringing us a lot of fun. So different from my other boats but I am really looking forward to this season.

I'll try to post a few pics.

Looks Great! To reset fuel consumption when you are at that screen press and hold the two little buttons on the control for a second or two till you hear it beep then release.

If I read the info correctly I goto the fuel consumption readout and press "-" and "Mode" together and it'll reset. Heading out about 5pm tonight for the first family cruise. Just a quick ride to our favorite waterfront restaurant for dinner then heading back. It'll be a chilly ride!

Love the boat. Had 4 adults and our 2 boys and we had plenty of room, especially while running. Had dinner on the boat (2 tables are awesome) and then headed back to the marina. 4.2 gallons used for the trip. Not sure the outdrive trims all the way up from the feel of the boat. It definitely comes up some, but not so much to where the bow will go up and down. Went to 4800rpm and knew there was more to go.

Sounds like you figured out the Fuel Used reset. If you have a trim monitor on the smart craft you should be able to watch the outdrive trim go from 0-10 on the gage as you push the switch up. After it gets to 10 it should stop. After you reach 10 you can go further into to trailer mode by pushing the trim button again, you will feel it click. Then it should move up to 30 or so on the smart craft indicator. Going into trailer mode should only be used for trailering or getting the outdrive way up if you are anchored close to the beach but only when the engine is off or sometimes at idle.

The 6.3 is rated up to 5200 RPMs. Mine will max out 5100 ish with the 24P Props with a top speed of 48mph. Thanks for the update.

Now you need to get a Magma Grill to cook your own food on the boat!

Definitely plan on adding a grill, just not sure where. I still have our used once grill from the previous boat but it's a pretty big rectangle shaped one. It's too big to mount on any of the framework. I had it on the swim platform and that worked well but I didn't like the chance of drippings getting on the swim platform and even though the mounting hardware is small (very similar to the plate that the tables mount into) having something to trip over or stub a toe on is not a good idea.

New to this thread - Looking at an '01 240SD w/ 518 hrs. Well maintained, has had only one owner. Boat is very clean looking inside, cushions and floor in very good shape, bottom has been painted. Short of the survey, does $18,000 sound like a good price?

Any updates? Providing everything checks out OK that is a lot of boat for 18K!

Ah, good to hear! I felt the price was good, but since I'm new to this hobby, wasn't sure.
Latest update - the Broker received my deposit check today, and now I need to line up the survey and sea trial.

How long does a survey take?

Has anyone heard/worked with Muntz Marine Surveyors or have any recommendations for a surveyor that covers the Norwalk CT area?

Thanks!

$18k is a great price...considering your location make sure it's not a Sandy boat.

Survey should only be a few hours at most. It's best if you are there during the survey, it's a good time to learn about the boat and see any issues first hand.

Been pretty quiet in here!

Nothing new with my boat, only used it once so far. I'm not so sure the outdrive is trimming all the way up but I will look into it more in the upcoming weeks ahead. Planning on going out of Saturday if the weather is good. Water is still too cold for the watersports. Speaking of the water sports, didn't realize getting 2 wake boards and 2 sets of skis would be close to $1000!!

Took mine out for it's Maiden Voyage on Mother's Day. Took the kids and wife and had a blast. Launched from Leesylvania State Park and cruised down to the 301 bridge. Windy day and hit some 2-3" waves a few times when the tide was on the move, amazing how well this boat handled, I would have turned around with my 20" Wellcraft. I cannot wait until the next trip hopefully this weekend. Love the 240 Sundeck.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, new member first time poster. I have a 04 240SD with a 350 MPI/Bravo III that appears to be leaking gear oil from the somewhere inside the boat. I filled the oil monitor and discovered that oil was coming out of the drain plug hole. I discovered the oil level was back to the bottom after several days of the boat just sitting. I followed the hose from the oil monitor/collector to the back of the boat and can't find a leak but I also can't get to the very back because it is too cramped. Is this a common issue? Anyone experience this problem and/or how did you fix it? Would anyone have any diagrams to help?

Check the bottom of the gear lube monitor bottle where the sensor wires are. Mercury had a problem with leaking bottles.

The wood steering wheel on my 2004 240 SD is pretty cracked, big crack on the back side. Where can I get a replacement wheel? The manual says it's:
1526292
1508563 CAP, STEERING WHEEL BURL FOR #1468859
1526292

  1. 1765813 STEERING WHEEL, MSPAD 136ABS/SR W/RING
  2. 1765814 STEERING WHEEL, 136ABS RING ONLY

yes the 240sd is one of the best ever SeaRay sport boat built IMHO.

FYI on steering wheel replacement. Quoted 2 different prices via MM. $750 & $825 + shipping!!! That is insane.

That was my first thought but there is no oil around the bottle at all. It seems to be leaking from somewhere close to the transom. I can't see where the hose fits into because the steering linkage and other stuff is in the way...

For the steering wheel, just get one of the current models from Sea Ray unless you want it to look exactly stock. Should be a couple hundred bucks. Alternatively there are lots of places that sell steering wheels much cheaper if you use google.

I'll probably pick up a steering wheel from West Marine or someplace similar. I'm thinking about adding a wakeboard tower. Not sure how much it would get used....
