220 DA thread

Mine has no gelcoat. It's a molded foam wood type of dash. The previous owner had painted it with topside paint. A few years later it has a few cracks that are showing thru. The previous owner never did a good prep job. Next year it is getting sanded and re-painted with the same topside paint.

Great deal. Sounds like a perfect price for fixing up and not losing on. Good Luck.

On the Seat, take it by a canvas/upholstery shop for a bid. You might be suprised at their price. Get a couple bids.
Do you have pics of the garboard plug?

Here is a picture of my drain plug. Any thoughts?

Hi !

Unfortunately I don't know how much it cost as I just bought the boat and the camper top was included. However, the camper top was made by a small, local and very danish manufacturer. I don't think he is in the market anymore, but I would be glad to help you find out. Maybe he has the measures and the drawings and maybe he would be able to reproduce it. If not, you're free to bring the picture of mine to your local manufacturer.

Good luck
Thomas

my camper top is a Sunbrella. they are still in business and I think they do most of the factory canvas for Sea Ray. I'll warn you, they arent cheap.

Thanks Thomas, I'll probably check out a local marine shop if I can't find a place that has the templates.

I thought Sunbrella was just the (expensive) fabric manufacturer that top manufacturers often use. ?

Google hasn't found me a place that has the templates. Maybe its just getting too old for that... my convertable top was made by Great Lakes, and they don't even sell that one anymore, bummer.

At least the current top is in good shape, and works well at speed - we mostly camp out with the kids or friends and only use the top at night to keep the dew out, so I'm keeping an eye out for a top that lets me stand up!

Correct ,subrella is the acrylic canvas fabric used in most tops. Its manufactured by Glen Raven. Try great lakes canvas....they construct lots of tops. Probably have templates already.

Right, they did have the templates, but they don't for anything older than a '93 now. <grumble>
Kinda wonder how much different a 1993 220 Weekender or 230 DA really is. Would probably be closer to a '93 230DA - wasn't there a change in the way boat length was publicized between '90 and '93 - something about including integrated swim platforms?
Hmmm... wondering now if the '93 230DA might be about the same hull.
Any ideas on that one?

I think the 230da are a different beam...be careful.

Anyone with the 220 have a bow roller for the anchor? If so, could you please take a pic of it for me? And maybe what type of roller you have?

Thanks!!!

Here you go - pics I had sitting around. Not sure of the make - I'll have to look next time I'm out at the boat.
On the boat when I bought it.

update: The only thing I find on it is the wording "High Seas" - assume this is the brand name. No other writing visible.
Length is 23 inches. Seems to work fine.

Has anyone rebedded all of the components (rub rail, hand rail, wiper, etc) on their 220? I have a leak and I think it may be the port side window but I figured I would go ahead and embed everything while I was at it. Anyone familiar with this process? Do I have to remove the headliner to remove the railing? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you had any luck finding out what to do? I have no idea how to help, but can empathize. Last year there was one time in a downpour we got some weepage that made its way into the starboard rear side of the aft cabin. It didn't happen since then and we've been caught in the rain several times, so I'm guessing there's a old cracked gasket somewhere that only leaks under the 'right' temperature or whatever - maybe leaked back from the starboard window seals.
Anyway, these things don't just magically get better for very long so I may be up for the same repairs you are looking at soon.

No help as of yet. I have been searching the forums and have not really found a great DIY thread yet. I have a lot of stuff that needs done and this is one of them. I have one of those leaks myself on one of my side windows I think but I am not sure. Still looking to find the exact location.

Well, it's either irony or karma but as I was prepping the boat for company this weekend... you got it, the aft cabin was wet again. Sigh. The weather is supposed to be good so I can get it all dried and cleaned out in time, but looks like something will need to be done.
You've got a point though that finding the source will be, um - difficult to say the least. It may take removing the upper window and starboard portal. Good luck finding 'factory' seals too, probably have to make something. It may also have to wait for a winter project unless we can come up with a knowledgable source that will expidite the job.
I'll let this you and the rest of the forum know if I come up with anything.

I had some water coming into the starboard side and it turned out that the screws on the side window need a gentle tightening. Basically, at least on mine, it's water tight until you get folks walking on the top near the hatches.
I just rebuilt my outdrive, bellows, shift cable (best thing I have ever changed) and working my way into the interior.
I'll play all Summer and then do the interior over the winter (I said that last winter!).
