Well i took the boat to the dealer with a list of problems 3 screws from the dash on the floor,Front two seats are loose,Port side ice chest is leaking in the boat,Front windsheid makes alot noise when closed,Nav stopped working, the dealer said the problems are not normal ,Does any one have the same kind of problems that Iam having

I've had a few.

-Few nuts falling from under dash
-Port seat loose
-PerfectPass not working

Thats about it I think. I just figure it's all part of boating. Most have been fixed, PerfectPass still not working.

I had a few minor issues with my new 230 as well. I had a few screws come loose, But I was able to find where they came from and fix it myself. My indash coller leaked into the boat as well. They did not put any silicone on the drainport inside the cooler. Also my drain plug had a very small leak coming out of one of the screws. The dealer fixed all these issues ASAP and I have not had any problems since.

When we took delivery of are NEW boat with 4hr's we had the following at delivery:

1. Air Voids in hull (at the very bottom of the hull)
2. Non-skid pattern had damange in it (had to order pattern from SeaRay to redo all of nonskid)
3. Missing Anchor Light, they end up giving me one that is like a mile long that folds in half and doesn't fit properly in the floor storage area.
4. Various dings, scraps, skuffs, and chips
5. Loose door to helm storage

Took 3 months for them to take care of all of this.
20hr service found the following:
1. Auto Bildge pump not working
After 20hr Service first time starting it up Idler pully wheel bearing frozen causing bolt to strip and wheel to come off including belt (that made for a very angry weekend)

100hr/1yr Service (just before 1hr warranty was up)
1. Loose cover snaps
2. Horn Button causes horn to honk and stay on whenever it wants
3. Wiper Blade worn out even though never used.
4. Steering wheel offer more then 90 degrees when outdrive is in straight position
5. Prop Annode already worn out with only 50hrs on it and boat is not kept in water.
6. Sink Drain takes forever to drain (ended up being chunks of fiberglass and crap in the line)

I think that's it but I feel like I'm forgetting something. They told me all of this was NORMAL.

I still have a hard time dealing with the loose screws that I have found. Just didn't seem right. I guess all boats have there own little gremlins to work.

As much as sport boats smack waves, I check how tight everything feels when I scrub the floors on the inside of the boat (once every few weeks as I have snap-in carpet and inside storage). I check snap in carpet screws in the floor, seat screws in floor and under seat, dash screws, bimini mounts, windshield and anything else I come across.

Both my 200 sport and my 220 select came with miscellaneous screws and such that were left over after the manufacturing process. There were also little things here and there that the dealer fixed for us both times. We just need to remember these are not manufactured 100% with robotic technology. A lot of human interaction goes on with our boats before we ever see them, not only in the manufacturing process, but in delivery/storage/prep at the dealership as well.

I had minor issues with my 2005 240 SD. The most serious being a snap tie was used to connect the lead from the battery to the ignition terminal instead of a machine screw - guess the guy installing the ignition switch didn't want to get one more screw. I wouldn't be bitter about this if it hadn't been the cause of us going dead in the water when we hit a wave and the snap tie broke. Took an hour to find the cause, after being towed in. I consider it the price of having the privilege to spend our weekends on the water.

That being said, when you pay anywhere from $1,500 - $2,000 for Pre-delivery Inspection (PDI), you would expect the dealer would find the left over screws...

When you are deciding to buy you review all the glossy brochures, slick websites, read reviews and ultimately pay big bucks for a boat such that when you get it your expectations are very high. Truth is it's a boat built by machines and humans and things get missed or work loose and things can rattle after a few hours of use. I think the US boat industry could learn alot from auto QA/QC but unfortunately that seems to be the state of the most of the boat industry.

Your situation is not unique. Make a punch-list, be firm, professional and persistent with your dealer to see that all punch list items are fixed to your satisfaction. The dealer wants to please you because there's a customer service letter you'll get from SR to fill out in the near future. I'm sure once the items are fixed you will truly enjoy the boat.

I have 13 hrs on my new 07 230 select..
It did sit at marine max last week for several little problems..

1) Starboard Trim lines were not properlt positioned, they were rubbing the paint off the trim cyl. They fixed but did not touch up the cyl paint like they said they would....

2) Rust in my dipstick tube, they said they fixed, I still have rust in my tube.....

3) Trim indicator is acting funny when Im at idle speed.. they didnt even look at...

4) Nasty stain on one cushion, they didnt even look at.....

And they managed to crack my center brake light bracket on the trailer....

I picked up early sat and no one was around to talk to except a dump paper pusher...

What are you guys seeing out there w/ other Marine Max shops. It seems when I walk thru ours, there are a ton of boats and no mechanincs working...... looks deserted both times I have been there....

If you didn't have your location on your name, I'd say "Hey that sounds like my MM dealer". I will never go to my dealer for maint. again I can tell you that. Just search for all my threads and you will find all the reasons why I think they BLOW!

I forgot to mention I do not use MM. I use Sea Ray of Lexington (Flerlage Marine) and they are fantastic. I purchased both of my boats from them and will do it again in the future. They handle my after-market/service items as well as prompt repairs of any/all punch-list type items, even after owning the boat more than 2 years. My boat is always clean when returned to me, as well as the tires pumped and ready to trailer. I could not imagine dealing with a sub-par dealership when purchasing a boat that costs what they do. It would infuriate me. Sea Rays have been claimed, by my dealership, to be the Mercedes of boats compared to any other available line in my area. So, in return, I expect that kind of service after the purchase and beyond.

Picked up my first 07 210 Select August 07 brand new. The boat was filthy, parked in a bed of ants and low on fuel. Glove compartment knob came off when I went to open it and ski well full of fuel. MM took that boat back and gave me another 07 210 Select the next weekend. At the ramp with the captain for the first ride and the boat would not crank. MM gave me two new batteries. Finally got it on the water and it wobbled really bad at 1500rpm. MM fixed the coupler. Walkway hatch kept popping up which caused the engine hatch to blow which caused the pillow (noodle) to take a flight into the water. MM added extra hatches. That fixed the machine hatch but the walkway hatch pops up during trailering and hitting waves. I finally took off the 40lb gas shock and installed a 30lb gas shock myself. Snaps comming off canvas and snap screws on boat loose. MM has been very helpful to repairs as well as adding a few items without cost.

I'm not sure how dealers operate in the southern regions, but on new boats up here everything is gone over, any problems at all are fixed before the customer even sees its again. Then again we are not a Marine Max, and i've seen some of their handy work

There are somethings the SR does that doesn't really make sense to me. I preped and rigged a 08 300DA earlier this week. From the factory they screwed the panel for the transom sprayer, through the sprayer hose, into the bulk head

The transom door will not latch closed because they put a snap there to hold it to the side when its open and it puts a chip in the gel...

I got some great stories from stuff i've seen on new boats, but it will probably scare a lot of you so I'll just keep quiet.

Unfortunatly MM is my only choice in the Houston area for Sea Ray,, If we all are seeing these problems w/ MM service, how the hell did MM get voted to "Boating Industry" magazine Hall of Fame?? I can't wait until I get my survey. I was warned from my Rinker dealer.....
I am very happy w/ the MM sales staff, but the Service dept sucks..... Too me they seem more concerned w/ making ready new boats than servicing the customer boats..... Like I said earlier, the service bays seem like there deserted..........

Exactly the same here. I'm surprised they didn't offer to buy your survey from you to get a good review they offerd me a 1yr service for mine ($600 value)

I acm close to buying a used Sea Ray From MM in Ga. The sales guy was great. They guy who ran the finance dept. was a real a hole. He tried to force me to come in on his terms to sign the papers for the boat I was looking at. I told him I could not make it in until next week due to my son having minor surgery and a heavy travel schedule. He still tried to pressure me. I told him I am the custumer and I will come in and sign the papers on my term,s which now will be never:smt021.

I purchased a new Sea Ray from Erwin Marine in Chattanooga, TN. I paid a little more, but they are awesome on service. If they say 3 weeks to get the parts. It is usually 1 and they let me keep my boat and use their dry storage while the boat is there. That way I miss no boating time and there is very little conveinance:smt038.

I have learned the hard way :smt009. When you buy a boat your are also buying a dealer. You cannot do enough research.

Wow sounds like the finance person I delt with. She basically tried to make it out as if I didn't have enough class to own a boat and wouldn't finance me, this was at the boat show where we had made our decision on price and everything I I told her to F Off and went around to one of the financing booths who was happy to finance me for exactly what I wanted.

A buddy of mine just had some work done at MM. He had to take his boat back because it was not repaired properly. They left the cabin door open all night. It came a big rain storm and flooded his cabin. They made it right but what an ordeal.
