210 Select BR thread - Questions and Answers

Can I Join In?? I have a 2007 230 Select..
We also love it. I have seen items fall from the glove box to the cooler. I dont use the cooler. We find it easier to use a small cooler and put it in front of the admirals port seat. I have seen myself using the buitin cooler for trash.
We have the 350 w/ B3. Wonderful match..
Never will I own another Alpha.

Somebody mentioned buying a bow ladder in the thread..
I have never used the bow ladder and if you guys would like I sell it for 1/2 price of new... Like I mentioned we have never used it. I dont like to beach our boat..
It is sitting in my garage gathering dust. Ill even send all the hardware...

Let me know

No! You may not, because yours is a step up in every way from mine (size, exhaust, tower, etc.). Just kidding. Nice boat.

We put the duffle (sp?) bag in front of the admiral's seat wher you put the cooler. I do wish they had put in some of the netting/mesh there to keep things stowed more securely. I am going to see if I can figure out a way to attach a bungee net up there for that purpose.

A few questions about the bow ladder... how easy is accessing the anchor with the ladder stowed? I use the anchor quite often. Also, could you take a pic looking down into the bow locker? The stealership mentioned some sort of panel when I inquired about adding it. I also would like to see exactly how it mounts in there. Thanks!

Here is a few pics of my 200 select. A little old compared to your guys. Funny thing, its still the only blue Sea Ray on our Lake.

VTSeaRay... I think now you should be able to get a better perspective for the flag on the boat. I don't think it is too big at all. I just need to figure out a more secure way to mount it. I may mount it aff of the starboard biminy upright. We'll see.

And here is the admiral and the rest of the crew...

Question for my fellow select owners.

I have to bags with a pair of skis in each bag in the center hull compartment. My daughters skis are easy to slide in there since they are smaller, but my skis can be pain in the butt. They just barely slide in there. I have to put the bag in the compartment empty and slide one ski at a time into the bag, and still stuggle alittle. So, do you guys have the same issue with you skis and storage?

Thats really a nice boat you have there. I wonder how many Sea Rays you see with the same color like yours?

Actually, we see 4 or 5 with the same pewter color scheme around here... but no other pewter bowriders. They are all 30'+ boats and are Sundancers and such. I think of them as the "parents" and "grandparents" while our boat is the "teenage son" of the Sea Ray family.

Sorry... I don't have skis yet. The only things that go in the center locker are fishing poles, fenders, inflatable rafts, and funnoodles. None of which are difficult to put in the locker.

Awesome pics all of you! I was at camp all weekend, but the pics are all on my gf's camera that is with her at work. I'll have to pull them off later! We had a great time this weekend! The weather was perfect, with no wind or rain, just tons of sun. We didn't leave the camp until around 9:45 last night, and didn't get home, till 10:45! What a time we had! Later than we wanted, but we were having so much fun doing sunset rides, and such, we didn't want to leave.

This weekend, while we were taking a break from tubing and swimming out in the deep water, my gf's 17 yr old son said to me, "your boat looks awesome in the water, with the light reflecting off it!" It did! We did some tubing(with 2 tubes), with him, and his buddy and my gf's sons 16 yr old cousin and her gf riding, till their arms couldn't stand it anymore. I was bouncing them all off regularly, with lots of thumbs up, and laughing from them! They had a blast they said. I usually created a huge set of waves (3-4' or more high) and would take them back thru them at 15-20 mph! They usually wouldn't make it thru them. Unfortunately, we forgot to bring the camera out with us for all this, the pics/movies would have been incredible!

FoxSeaLady, I've found that when I travel, I unhook the rear leg of my bimini support, and drop my bimini onto the 3 pads and that helps to keep it from flying up (though, I still had it lift a little) as much as before. (I velcro the 3 legs of the bimini together, so they don't scratch anything) Most of the time, it doesn't lift when I'm boating, but last night on the way to the launch area, (2 miles or so at 35+ mph) it came up 2" or so... not open, but almost. This was on flat water, with no wind (other than what I created by going fast) Tonight, I'm going to swap out the magnets for the rubber boot (like the center engine cover uses) that my dealer sent me and see if that helps. I also put my cockpit/bow covers on, when going long distances, or in last night's case, where I know tons of bugs are going to be, or if it's going to be raining/mud off the other vehicles on the road.

I haven't done waterskis in that locker yet, they're still sitting in the garage. We just don't ski that much any more.

So far, I just put my paddle in there.

I do get some water sitting in there, though and I'm not sure where it comes from. It's just a little (not enough to get to the drain hole) so I don't worry about it usually. In the past, when I bring it in, for storage in the garage, I have taken a towel and wiped it all up. But, it comes back. Some probably comes from people with wet swim gear/clothes. Draining down from the main floor?

I get that little amount of water in there as well. If I don't wipe it out like you, it gets a little nasty after awhile. I agree with you, it must be the swim gear dripping and running in there.

Hey VT, the bow ladder comes in handy when you beach or pick up the driver at a launch. We don't have any docks usuable at Lake Lanier. And the ladder fits very well in with the anchor. I'll try to remember to take a picture onceI've also added a pull bar at the back ladder. It was hard getting up the back ladder out of the water. And I've put down the bimini before to cover for winter and that's a pain to do. I'll just keep putting the bungee on for now. Hey, how did you get all those pictures on your post?

I think you're talking about MatthewMiller's pics, he (like I do) uses Photobucket (it's free). I keep most of my pics I want to share in private picasa online photo albums(free up to 1 GB of storage). I use Picasa (a free Google utility) that allows me to catalog all of my pics on my local pc, when I want to share a picture, I "export" it from the original shrinking it to 800x600 but keeping the original image quality. Then, I can upload this exported image (kept normally in your My Pictures\Picasa Exports\{albumname} ) from Photobucket.com to share. Once loaded, there is an item(img code is it's label) that you left click on, that copies it to your "mouse" buffer. Then, you can Ctrl-V it in the text to paste the URL on the screen in the "reply" text section where you normally type in your reply.

Ok, here's a question for all of you. Do you hear this almost sounds like a crying baby from the engine compartment when just barely moving along? I think it's a pump cycling, but I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I've never heard it before on any other engine, but my repertoire is very limited for boat engines.

Nothing here. I'll try to listen for something next time. I don't know of any pump in the engine compartment other than the bilge pump that would be cycling vice being on or off. Have you checked that? Is it your blowers (possibly a voltage swing causing them to speed up and slow down)? Are the engine RPMs cycling too when you hear this noise or are they steady while you hear the cycling noise?

Well, I can think of a few pumps in the engine area. steering, fuel, and trim, that I know of. I'll have to have someone drive, while I open it up, and try and pin-point what's making the noise. It's not my blowers or bilge, they're usually off while I'm underway when I hear this. I wasn't sure if anyone else had heard the noise, that's why I asked.

I understand. But all of the pumps you mentioned should either be constant speed (at least consistent with engine RPM [fuel pump]) or only on when you do something (i.e. trim the motor). Have you seen fluctuations in your voltage (leads to an electrical problem and you hear it b/c of the speed of the fan/pump changing with voltage) or are you engine RPMs cycling with the noise (leads to a belt driven pump).

Well, everything is constant when I hear it. I do notice my electrical circuits (radio goes quiet, lights dim (if on)) when I trim the motor. Do yours? But, I'm not trimming when this happens. I'm probably going out on the lake again tonite, I'll have to investigate where exactly it's coming from.

I wonder if there's a stuck float switch, switching the bilge on/off and it's running while dry? There's no water down in there to switch it on/off. Hmmm... like I said, I'll look tonite when I go out on the lake. I was on the lake for 3 hrs last night after work. I try to get out on it as often as I can.

I have not ever noticed lights or radio dimming while I trim... but I haven't paid any close attention to them while trimming either. My radio has never gone quiet, even when I trim. I have not seen the voltage indication change significantly either... even when trimming. I also haven't been out on the boat in the dark yet (too nervous about getting back and on the trailer in the dark so far). I imagine that the trim motor is a heavy draw on the electrical system and could cause some slight dimming, but if it is at all significant (especially if the voltage drop is so significant that the radio is cutting out), I'd take it in to the dealer and get the electrical system checked out. HTH.

That was interesting...

Yesterday I was out on the lake for about 5-6 hrs. Another great day out there, I'm burned pretty good... foolish me, I didn't put suntan lotion on, since it felt cool, mid to upper '70's I wasn't thinking how hot that sun was! Lots of aloe for me now! Luckily, I've already got a pretty good base tan, but it still burned.

While out, I finally opened up the motor hatch, and listened to all the noises to see if I can figure things out. It's not easy sorting them out, that hatch covers up a fair amount of engine noise!

The crying baby sound, sounds like my power steering. It happens even when I'm just sitting at idle, and I turn the steering a little bit, and then turn it back a little bit in the other direction... most of the time, it's quiet.

Then, the other noise that is interesting, is when I shut off the motor, it sounds like hissing coming from the port side of the engine rear, the transom. It's almost like water/gas is escaping from that huge exhaust hose somewhere, but the bilge is dry and I don't see any steam or anything, so maybe it's all internal to the hose that I'm hearing it. I never heard this before I opened the hatch.

Do any of the rest of you hear these noises?
