210 Select BR thread - Questions and Answers

Some pics from out on the lake today with my oldest son(I only have 3 sons!) and a couple of his friends. The water temp was 73 when we got out at noon, 75 on the surface by 4PM! It was hot, hazy and a little humid here (Lake Champlain - VT) today, and it shows in some of the pics.

Hmmm, interesting day (we finally got a break in the weather here and got some sun!) The wind was strong maybe 15-25 from the South, forming 3-4' whitecaps on the lake today. I got down there, and it didn't seem to bad near shore, so, I launched. This boat is a handful to manage in the wind/waves! It's a lot of weight! I launched alone, and there's no dock where I launched today. After I got it in the water, and realized this probably wasn't the best place to launch, it was to late. I walked the boat out to about chest deep water, and set my anchor. It wouldn't hold. I grabbed the anchor line, and then swam down to the anchor. I found a huge rock near the anchor, so I set the anchor in front of that. That held it. I then went and parked the truck/trailer. Then I went back and wrestled with the anchor to free it, and then pushed the boat out to deeper water, and climbed in, and ran up to start it before I was blown back on the shore.

One thing I really like about this boat, so far, is it always starts up fairly quickly! Love the Fuel Injection!

So, off I go, I head out a ways, and put it in neutral, so I can bring in the rest of the lines, and finish getting things ready for riding. Once done, I take off... I'm bouncing thru the waves, having a grand time, and hit a couple of huge 3-4' waves, and almost go airborne. All of a sudden, I hear this loud growl behind me, knowing I'm in 100+' of water, I'm not sure what it is, and turn around, all 3 of my rear hatch covers are open! I shut the boat down, and go back and close them all... I then take a line and tie it from the starboard cleat, to the handle in front of the bench seat to keep the hatches closed.

Argh... Looks like I'm going to be putting straps with snaps on all 3 of them! The dealer gave me one for the port hatch, but I'm going to do it on all 3. This is ridiculous. It did it again later in the afternoon, when I was just starting to have fun on the larger rollers again, I'd taken the line off to lay on the bench and use the rear pad, and I hadn't put it back on.

I did enjoy how nice she rides thru the waves however (when she's not popping hatches) Very powerful, yet quite smooth, cutting thru the waves like butter for the most part. These were fairly large waves I was hitting, and I just rode right over them, without any trouble!

Luckily, the wind/waves dropped down to 10-20 mph and 1-2' when I came in, it was still a challenge, but not as much as earlier this morning had been. I found another rock to set my anchor on, so I've got that down to a science now.

Here's some pics from today out at one of my favorite spots. 3-4 Baja's came in, and rafted up, so I thought I'd get some pics of 'em.

Wow, that lake is so calm. Its time for you to get some skis and take advantage of that!!!

Nice pics! I am heading out to Aqualpalooza today, so I'll put up some pics in the next day or two. BTW, I am hearing more and more about the hatch problems. I haven't had it happen to me yet, but I am expecting it. Have the dealer fix them or install the snaps/tie downs or whatever on all of them. I can also attest to the smooth ride through some significant waves on our river/lakes here. I still love it! :smt038

Yeah, I'm going to see about getting 5 more straps to use with the one I already have, and put 2 on each corner of each hatch, and hopefully that'll hold them down.

Yeah, the really smooth pics were from 7/17, Yesterday, it was only mildly smooth in that bay on the lee side of the island.

Count me in on the 210 Select. Mine's an 07 with 5.0L Merc. We've really enjoyed ours since we've modified it a bit. Still have trouble with the walkway hatch blowing open during travel. I tried putting on a 30lb gas shock but it's still pops open while trailering. I'm thinking of downgrading to a 20lb to see how that works. In the mean time, I have a bungee cord holding it down. I also wished my helm seat had a way to lower/raise. I've asked MM about modifying it and they said they could cut the tube a little to lower the seat. Other than that, we love our new boat.

Foxsealady,

My 230 Select has that same problem with the walkway hatch. My dealer attached a piece of webbing under the hatch and then mounted a snap on the area that drops down toward the engine area. That way the snap is hidden. Just snap it and go works perfect and you cant see it.

Had the first hatch cover opening pop up yesterday on the way to Aquapalooza. :smt013 Looks like I will be getting it fixed during the next stretch of bad weather when I can drop the boat off at the dealer for a day.

These hatch problems are common in the 210 & 230 from what I hear. But I love my sun pad and the way the back seat pulls up to have a back rest on the sun pad. I like your idea of the snap that goes down into the motor area so you won't see it. I've had to stop MM from putting any more holes in my boat for this hatch problem. It's ironic I have to really pull hard to get the hatch to open over my batteries!! And I don't have any other problems with my motor hatchway. But that walkway hatch still wants to fly up and wave at everyone while we're going down the road.

I joined this site originally looking for more info about a 185, 195 or 205. This weekend I saw a 210 select being towed while running some errands.
After seeing it and doing some research I am trying to find a way I make it work when we are ready to buy.
My problem is that I want to keep it in the garage.
I have about 23.5 feet in depth, a double car garage door and a 7' high opening. Any chance this will work????

Thanks.

I have a 26'(W)x30' garage and my 210 Select fits, but not by much. I have the non-folding tongue trailer, and have my front of the boat so close to the door, the other day, it wouldn't open! The rear gives me just shy of 4' clearance! So, this is close to the 26' or a little more long! It's also 1' wider than those other boats you mentioned, and about 1.5' or 2' taller! Look back at my pics, I've got one in here that has my 185 and my 210 both in the garage (when I first got the 210) at the same time ( http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8339&highlight=185+garage ). You can see the differences in height, width and length! It's quite a bit bigger in all respects.
(I have wider/taller garage doors than normal too).

Thanks for the info. It does not look like it would fit.
I was hoping it would. I need to get out to the local dealer and take some measurements of the 195 and 205 on the trailer. I know the 185 would fit (thanks to some other posters)but I want to go as big as we can....rather than wishing we had bought a bigger boat later.

Thanks

I wouldn't limit the size by the size of your garage (tho that is where I keep mine) If you can afford bigger and want bigger, you can always keep it stored under cover outside the garage can't you?

I would love to.....but the "neighborhood preservation" department with the city feels differently. The only way you can get away with it outside of your garage is to store in on the side of your house. We do not have enough room on the side. Might be time for some garage renovations....

I wanted to fit mine in my 21' deep garage too, but couldn't. First off, my rough measurments (with a swing away tongue trailer) came out to right at 25' long. When I tried it (I was going to go in angled as I have a 3 car garage), it didn't matter. The height at the windshield peak wouldn't fit (close, though). A few days later, the admiral said to me, what if we put the foot of the trailer stand on a rolling platform (we have those ones you put under each car wheel and roll it around) and lower it down to clear the garage opening? I told her it was a good idea, but we haven't yet tried it. I may try it after taking the boat out again. I'll let you know how it goes. Anyway, I agree with the above posts... go with the biggest boat you can afford to own and run-that way you never regret settling. Add on to the garage or get a slip/dry storage. You can figure out a place to store the trailer.

Mine has the swing away trailer tongue and it measures 21 foot long when swung back and the outdrive in the down postion. I stored it in my neighbors standard 2 car garage one year and it just barely fit in height. I had to disconnect it from the truck and adjust the trailer mounted roller jack all the way down. I then rolled it in manually, very carefully and it did clear..just barely.

When it is rigged on the trailer is it higher than 7'??
I have 23' in depth to work with and a double car garage door.
Thanks again for the information.

I really don't know. I've since moved from that area and I keep it on the lift in season. It was a ratty old 2 car fiberglass garage door and we had to prop it up with a board to get it in. You may be able to go to a boat dealer to measure the height. The high point is at the top of the walk-thru windshield. You would need a long stick, a level, a tape measure and 2 people to get it right. Make sure the front is jacked all the way down. Also double check the length with the tongue swung in as its been a few years since I did this.
