Really? For the same reason The Ohio State was left out because they couldn’t win their conference championship.
In all seriousness, the bowl system has been completely destroyed with all of this opting out, transfer portal stuff. On one hand, I get it. On the other hand, there’s no “I” in team. You make a commitment, keep a commitment. Same for coaches. No revolving doors until after Bowl season……if you want to have a bowl season.
The NCAA has been trying to preserve the idea of the “student athlete “. In the era of NIL, that ship has sailed.

Gonna be 12 next year and I'm certain there'll be plenty of bellyaching about seeding with who gets bye's and home games.
In the past its never been the best four teams. In 2015 Ohio State lost in East Lansing on a shitty rainy day where Urban refused to keep handing the ball off to Zeke. The team was loaded with NFL talent and would have won natty twice in a row.
