2017 Memorial Day Raft-up in Zach's Bay

I am still planning to be in Zack's Bay for Friday night dinner. I want to shove off from my dock as soon as the Admiral gets home from work and my son is home from school.

We will be having some friends join us on Sunday, whom Ron has graciously agreed to shuttle back and forth from his marina for us. We may also have two day boats join us, possibly for an overnight too. With all of this, I will need to be near the end of the raft up again this year.

As of now I'm still in. Never been to the south shore. Whats the deal with the bridges? Going to have to start doing some research.

Joe-what time do you plan on leaving the statue on Sat. morn? I might go grab a dock in NJ and meet some people in NYC Friday night.

We usually leave around 8am "ish". The bridges open on call so we try to travel together to make it easy. Your more than welcome to join the group for the ride to Zachs in the morning. You can hail us on ch 69.

Heading east after coming in the Jones Inlet the first bridge you have to go under, the Meadowbrook Parkway Bridge, has 21' vertical clearance at median high tide which should be no problem if you can lower your antennas. A few miles further east is the Sloop Channel bridge with 15' vertical clearance at median high tide. If you need more than that you have to raise the bridge operator on VHF Channel 13 to open it. That operator usually covers a few bridges so you may have to wait a bit.

Nothings definite. Might join you by the lady. I'll know as we get closer

Zachs raft is one of my favorite times of year, and have not missed one in years. Well be incognito on the NON Sea Ray raft -LOL. We'll come visit by dinghy, and if Baby Taz delivers frozen concoctions I'm putting my order in now ;)

Hey guys, trying to make it there on sat. Is it the same show Saturday and Sunday? Wish i can stay for the hole weekend but other plans on Sunday.

Is it easy to get to the Anchor spot? Any problems with tides? Wheres the best place to anchor to watch the show.. ps Im Frank

Frank we usually have 10 or so boats rafted together some from Friday night to secure space. As always stay in between the channel markers and there's no prob the entrance to Zachs bay is shallow but marked. "Do not go outside these markers" if you'd your more than welcome to join us.

I might join you guys Thank you for the invite. It would be me and my Wife Jenn, And maybe one other cpl. It looks like a great time really looking forward to it. Maybe ill meet u guys in the am and run in with u...

It's a pretty straightforward run from the Jones Inlet to Zachs Bay, but the entrance to Zachs Bay can be a little tricky if you aren't used to it. It's well marked but very narrow and the area immediately to the East of the southern most buoy tends to be shallow closer to the south side of the marsh island and is best avoided. If you want to anchor east of the entrance make sure you get deep in to the bay before you turn left.

i took a pic of the chart and it looks like its marked pretty good. But you say when you pull in make a left? after you go around that Island? I'm trying to upload a pic of the chart but it won't let me

I haven't been there either. Figured i would go with people that have the local knowledge.

There will be traffic like the Long island expressway so follow the leader... as long as you stay in the markers, you will be fine. Were there all weekend Ch 69. More the merrier.
