I recently bought a slightly used 2011 Sea Ray 270 SLX. I love this boat, but one complaint is the built-in ski locker is constantly wet - which makes for a moldy environment for my skis and bumpers that I store in there.
I would have thought the ski locker would drain back to the engine bilge, but instead it is its own self-contained compartment, with its own separate bilge pump. This second bilge is mounted in its own slightly lower reservoir within the ski locker. The bilge works, but there is always that last half inch or so of standing water around it, making for a damp locker when it sits closed for weeks at a time.
I keep the boat on a lift and it is always covered with the factory mooring cover. I am trying to diagnose how water keeps getting into the ski locker.
The first thing I noticed is that other areas of the boat have drains into the ski locker – the cooler storage under one of the seats, the head compartment, the lockers under the bow cushions. I even think the bow anchor locker is routed to drain into the ski locker. What a bummer, I wish all those areas drained to the engine bilge, not the ski locker! Plus the ski locker hatch has no seal, so a lot of the water that hits the deck (from washing or rain) flows around the locker hatch and into the ski locker.
I am not sure if there is anything I can do to help the situation. Maybe it is just a poor design. Anyone else run into this and come up with a solution?
Thanks!
David
