Hi guys anyone done an install for rod holders on a sea ray 185.

I would be interested in what types and where they were mounted and bought from etc as there is no rails to mount them on.

I have seen sea ray monogrammed stainless rod holders somewhere but havent been able to locate them again.

Would love to see ur pics of installs and any recommendations on locations etc.

I installed two flush mount stainless steel on my '07. I'm not sure if an '08 has a different layout. It was a bit intimidating drilling such a large whole in my new boat but it came out nice. I'll try to upload a picture later if you need it.

I'm having a tough time committing to drilling that hole. I want to install rod holders that will also support the Magma grill that's been unused for years.

Just remember -- DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT drill the hole vertically if you use slanted holders (which is generally preferred) - you must match the angle of the holder.

You can get SS rod holders just about anywhere - plenty of options. Did you try your SR dealer for the SR holders?

Good advise. My wife picked up some holders from Bass Pro with a gift card. They weren't going to be compatible with the grill so they were returned. It may be time to roadtrip to the SeaRay dealer in Austin.

Hitting the boat with a hole saw is still pretty intimidating, though.

Id appreciate the pics to see where u decided to drill. I want to do it right first time round. Our Sea Ray dealers in Oz suck as!#$. Prices are through the roof. Im so much better buying things from the states online even if I have to pay a heft postage fee.

Ive found these that I quite like but would prefer ones with a rubber boot to stop water going in etc. Also what degree or angle would u recommend as the glass is not flat and curves?? . I would like to install in the fibreglass close proximity to the passenger and drivers seats not sure if 15 or 30 degree ones would be the shot

Probably not what your looking for, but in the interim....the grab handle on the stern of the boat above the swim platform holds my 2 rods perfect.

I made this out of some PVC, a 2x10, and some conduit clamps. It attaches to the ski pull hootus with any eyebolt and wingnut. Works great. It should work on basically any boat out there. used a piece of comping pad foam in between the board and the boat to act as a cushion to prevent marking up the fiberglass.
