2007/2008 Lake Level Water Problems

The problem with Mead and Powell stem from low snow pack in the Rockies. How ever in the last few years the snow pack has been closer to nomal. But thats not enough to bring the Lakes back to full pool. Both are about 50ft below full pool. Things are actually stalble now. Some believe the problem has been compounded by poor management of Powell's levels witch impacts Mead. We need above normal snow pack to get things back to normal.
Powell had been down 124ft.

And of course our weather has been absolutley spectacular since i pulled the boat out. It's killing me to be missing out on the fall boating season. I feel just like the folks up north do when they take their boats out for the winter.:smt089

Dave
.....or sell theirs....Of couse we had a great stretch right after I sold mine, but we had a abnormally wet Aug, so i'm good. Now we await January, the boat show and the hunt will begin. Either way, best of luck to you guys and I hope you get some water soon.

CNN this morning was talking about Georgia governor is thinking on suing Florida for the problems with there lakes. Deffentily getting out of hand for you all in the southeast.

I thought I'd post up a few pics. of our water level. Worst I ever seen!
Enjoy!

Dave, that's a combination of not much rain and feeding the Hudson River. That's the purpose of the Sacandaga lake. We need a snowy winter and a wet spring.
I hope all you boys on the Hudson are enjoying my water!

OK, on the news this AM, there was mention of some southease community that was within 48 hours of running out of drinking water - anyone else hear where it was? I missed the name, then they went straight to the ATL lawsuit acainst the Corps.

That plain sucks.. i feel bad for you all who have your boats on lakes. but i really feel worst for the people who have boats too big and leave them in the water. What do you do then? just let it tip over if you cant get it out.. dam thats a bad situation.. If i figure out a way to get you all some water from down here ill let cha know.. Good luck to all! hope it Rains soon ..

Lakw Wylie continues to drop in spite of the rain we had. And it is really beginning to show now at the Marina. I took a few more pictures this AM. It looks like an interesting phenomonen will develop in part of the Marina. The bottom levels across part of the front are now starting to show clearly wheras those in the back are not. If the lake recedes another foot, we will have a dry spot across the front of the Marina and the back of the Marina will still have some water creating something like a Pond.:wow: I took thse pictures this morning. These show there is maybe 6 inches to go before the bottom is exposed.

Unfortunately some of the docks are right on top of that area that has dried up. Here is a 270DA that is high and dry.

Well, it is not that unusual in some areas with major tides to leave them on the ground till the next high.... But that is hours - - the people in GA might be looking at months in the muck.

Here s another lake ............West Point Lake..........on the Georgia Alabama border that is drying up http://www.wsbtv.com/video/14340908/index.html

It looks like we have some pretty ridiculous laws on the books that require water be released down stream with no consideration given to adjusting water flows for things like a drought.:smt009

Just saw this on NOAA's site... It should help out.

...SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL IS LIKELY ACROSS CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA
THE NEXT FEW DAYS...

CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA IS LIKELY TO RECEIVE ITS FIRST SIGNIFICANT
WIDESPREAD RAINFALL SINCE SEPTEMBER 14TH...AND QUITE POSSIBLY THE
GREATEST EVENT TOTAL AMOUNT OF RAINFALL IN SEVERAL MONTHS.

TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY...THE WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN UNSETTLED
WITH CONSIDERABLE CLOUDINESS...NUMEROUS SHOWERS...SCATTERED
THUNDERSTORMS...AND PERIODS OF RAIN...POSSIBLY HEAVY AT TIMES. FOR
THE FOUR DAY PERIOD...AVERAGE RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF TWO INCHES ARE
LIKELY. LOCALIZED HEAVIER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE.

THE CAUSE OF ALL THIS WET WEATHER IS A SURGE OF WARM MOIST AIR
FLOWING NORTH FROM THE EASTERN GULF OF MEXICO AND OFF THE
SUBTROPICAL ATLANTIC INTO THE CAROLINAS BETWEEN DEEP LOW PRESSURE
OVER THE GULF STATES AND HIGH PRESSURE OFF THE EAST COAST. THIS
CHANNEL OF MOIST AIR IS EXPECTED TO COLLIDE WITH A COLD FRONT
SLIPPING SOUTH FROM THE OHIO VALLEY BY THURSDAY AND REMAINING
STATIONARY OVER THE AREA THROUGH FRIDAY. ANOTHER COLD FRONT
IS EXPECTED TO PUSH INTO THE AREA FROM THE WEST ON SATURDAY.

BECAUSE MAIN STEM RIVERS AND MAJOR STREAM CHANNELS ARE
EXCEPTIONALLY LOW OR NEARLY DEPLETED BY THE DROUGHT...FLOODING IS
NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER...WITH BANDS OF HEAVY SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS...RAINFALL RATES EXCEEDING ONE INCH PER HOUR ARE
POSSIBLE. THIS SUDDEN DELUGE MAY CAUSE LOCALIZED FLOODING OF
HIGHWAYS AND URBAN DRAINAGES. INITIAL RAINFALL AFTER THE
PROLONGED DRY SPELL MAY ALSO CAUSE SLICK PAVEMENT SURFACES AND
CAUTION IS ADVISED FOR MOTORISTS UPON FIRST ENCOUNTERING WET
HIGHWAYS TODAY.

My own "personal" forecast doesn't see it that way after looking at all the data available on line (at least for greater Charlotte). We only have 2/10ths in our rain guage this AM. We will be lucky if we pick up much more than that over the next several days. Some other areas of the Carolinas may be luckier. However I am thankfull for whatever rain we do get even though it may not be much. Stage 4 restrictions within the next three weeks are a distinct possibility right now according to local news reports. That bans all outdoor use of water and puts businesses at risk that need water. I often wondered how this affects the Marine business as well and doing things like running motors on the hard with hoses connected to them or trying to clean up a boat. I guess we will see.
