Ok long story short, I had Retina Detach Surgery, Vision wasnt good for a while. Wife and I took boat out and I let her drive, just made sense. When we were coming into marina no wake, I said "Sweetie get boat near the slip and then move and let me back in. She assured me she could do it. Its not that hard but she has no experience , 3 times I screamed let me back boat in slip, Each time I was overruled. When she started backing , I started screaming your gonna hit the steel Pole pull up, pull up, pull up. Well she knocked the H--- out of marina and steel pole ( Yea she could do it ) It knocked about 4" piece out of fiberglass rub rail on swim platform. This boat has metal rub rail with strip of Fiberglass on top and bottom of it. If I could get a scrap piece I could cut my rub rail straight and F26 A piece in . Does anyone know where I might get a small piece of this or any other ideas will be appreciated. Thanks

Thats a shame , but don't be to hard on her...that's how we learn...
hopefully you'll be able to fix it up and next time when she wants to back in put your hand on her's while she's at the control and guide her in..so she gets the feel..

Hey, I didnt have to say a thing after the crash, She knew.. I was on back was gonna try to catch us but she was backing up so fast I was afraid Id be hurt if I tried to stop boat. Hey been married 20 years and wouldnt trade her for Sarah Roemer ( That blonde on Disturbia and Fired up movie) haha . First dent in our 8 yr old boat with 500 hours on it

Sarah Christine Roemer (born August 28, 1984) is an American actress and model.
She is known for her roles in the films Disturbia, Asylum and Fired Up. ...:smt009 Too young for you...:smt021

It's a lot easier to get your boat fixed than your arm or leg!!!

Sometimes you just gotta get out of the way!

I don't believe you can just "glue" a piece of fiberglass in there and call it a day. There might be balsa coring in there that could be a real problem if not properly repaired by a good fiberglass technician. If you are not able to do a proper repair you should have it done by an expert.

The whitish piece that is broken in your picture is a solid piece - meaning, there's no "top piece" and "bottom piece". That stuff is a rigid vinyl and comes in rolls or long sections. That piece gets screwed onto the boat, and then the actual SS rubrail insert gets screwed to both it and the boat.

Companies like Taco Marine produce this stuff. I do not know if they produce it for Sea Ray, or if someone else does. However, there is a very good chance that it is made out of a custom color for Sea Ray. Try your local dealer - they may be able to sell it to you by the foot.

The procedure would be simple... remove the SS insert enough to carefully (perpindicular to the length) remove a section of the vinyl rubrail. Cut a new piece to go in. Predrill, countersink the hole (in the glass) and add screws if needed. Reattach SS insert. Be sure to use a quality marine sealant like Boat Life or 3M (NOT 3M 5200!!!) in any holes where you removed screws.

It is hard to tell in the pictures. Is it just the plastic strip or is some of the fiberglass broke too???

Its just the solid Ivory piece thats damaged, that rub rail served its purpose and protected the fiberglass . Thanks to everyone for their input.

You can just replace a small piece of the vinyl. Obviously you will have small lines were you remove and cut the section. Or you can get aggressive and remove a bunch of it.

Thanks techmitch, Thats It &4U wish2fish

Want an easy fix for this? :smt115I used an epoxy that comes a clay like role, blue on the outside and white on the inside. You get it at Lowes, for $5. You mold it together like play-doh and it turns into an off white color. You mold it into the place where the rubber is missing. When it drys, you can sand it. I had two places where I used it on my boat and no one notices it. It has lasted two summers, so far... I have on my list of things to do, to replace the rubber, but for now it looks fine...
