Can anyone help me? I live in New Zealand. The starboard hull vent cover (the long tapered cover on the outside off the hull) on my 2002 480 DB came off and sank. The glue failed and the plug-in fixings let go. I have contacted Searay but they no longer supply that part. Does anyone know where I may be able to get a replacement vent cover?

Those are molded or cast plastic parts purchased from a vendor. When a boat leaves production, the molds for such items are usually returned to Sea Ray, kept for a little while then destroyed.

YOur on;y hope for a replacement is Flounder Pounder Marine sales wwho buys a lot of odd lot and obsolete things from Sea Ray when t hey need to make some room. The other option may be to have one copied by making fiberglass mold and casting your own from resin and fiberglass cloth.

Sorry.........

I would run it past FPmarine.com, and Ebay, as well as here.

Searay-Parts.com (FP Marine) Bought one for my 400SB. No hassles and they have them in the different sizes (you need the large, I think)

I have emailed them and they said they couldn't supply one. Do you know the name of the person you were dealing with?

I think there's a misunderstanding here. I believe Peter is looking for the long cover that's unique to the 480DB, it covers the engine room vent opening.

I think A6 bought the trapazoidal covers that are used for other air outlets, like the dryer or head vents.

i think you'll be hard pressed to find a cover, best bet is to have one made....it's not going to be cheap.

To answer your question, Ken Gearin owns Flounder Pounder (and sea ray-parts.com). Ben Marks works for Ken and is a parts pro. While Floubder Pounder is a liquidator, their business is extremely well organized and either Ken or Ben will know what you are looking for and if they have it.

I took a 2-week boat trip on a friend's '98. We took a storm beating at one of the first stops. 30+ mph winds pushed us against the dock all night, and as you described, the fasteners and adhesive on the stbd vent cover failed. Fortunately, just enough fasteners held that it didn't fall into the water. We secured it for the rest of the trip with white duct tape.

It got me thinking though. If we had lost it, I would've investigated having replacements fabricated from stainless. It's a fairy simple shape and the opening would be forgiving. I think it would look great. Similar stainless trim was optional on early-2000's big 'dancers, and once I saw it, boats without it looked wrong.

Just last wkd I fitted my 280 with a custom-fabbed stainless vent cover, and it looks awesome. It's one of those modifications that looks like the factory did it. (it could be argued that they should have)
