Just had the boat hauled for the hurricane. Can't get the A/C to run, and is difficult to get to strainer.

What is the best way to prime the water pump for the AC unit.

Thanks

Take a garden hose with running water and stick it in the through hull discharge. Have someone start that AC and the pump will prime. Some say take the boat for a ride and it will prime....if there is a lot of trash in the water after the storm, it may be better to go the garden hose route.

So the AC system should be off and started while holding the hose to the discharge. I had tried to do it with a nozzle while the unit was on and did not work.

Thank you

Did you check your through hull water pickup when the boat was hauled to make sure there wasn't any obstructions? I hold the running garden hose against the through hull fitting, then have my wife turn the AC on (make sure the thermostat is set so the pump starts) and it primes everytime. I do this each time the strainer is cleaned, or the first time I start the AC in the spring. The AC water pick up has a scoop thorugh hull fitting. It may prime if you run the boat at a cruising speed for awhile, others on here do it that way too.

I put a hose connection with a valve between the strainer and pump. I use my compressor to blow out the lines for winterization. If I would loose prime, I can connect a garden hose to prime the pump. It is very easy to winterize, and sves money...

This is the way my boat is setup too. I lose prime everytime I forgot to close the seacocks when putting the boat on the lift, which is frequent. If I don't want to bother with the garden hose, the only other way I can get it to prime is to get on plane. Doesn't work for me to use the garden hose in the thru-hull discharge. I've also tried going idle speed, no luck. Plowing water, no luck. Full plane and then I see water flow.
