Hello All,

I have a deposit and inspection planned on a single owner 340 this week. The boat appears very clean with only 400 Hours. It has the 6.2 mercs and wondering about the power vs the 7.4 which was standard. Also, the 1998 370 has rebuilt 7.4 engines that have only 120 hours on them. The boat is pretty clean but shows its original 889 hours. I scuba dive so I have tanks, gear etc... and will spend the week-ends with my wife on the boat and travel to the Bahamas from West Palm. Which one would you guys lean towards.

Personally I would go for the bigger boat. If that 370 isn't nice, there's a ton out there right now.

If the 340 is the one in St. Louis/Grafton area. It is a very nice boat. It would be hard to pass up.

With you wanting to go to the bahamas I would definately go for a bigger boat, and the 7.4 are good motors.

The price range is the issue with trying to get a cleaner 370, do you think the 340 is too small for what I want to do?

A cleaner 1998 370 and a 2001 340 should be close in price, no?

If the 370 just needs some sweat equity to make it nice and the survey checks out, take the plunge. Having two new motors is also a plus. The 340 could probably do the trek, but a bigger boat is definitely better. The 370 is also quite a bit larger in terms of 'feel' when you're on the boat.

Thank you, The boats are close in price, I am letting the meticulous care of the 2001 340 lean me away from the newly powered 370. Tough choice.

I would lean to the 340, due to being newer and if you ever want to go any larger. You are looking at diesels.

I too would lean towards the 340. How good is a "good" price? An estimate is fine I just wondered what an '01 340 is going for. It's exciting times buying a boat isn't it?

The specs are similar to a 320. So, I would expect to perform similar to a 320. The 320 has more deadrise. So the 340 should be a bit better, than a 320.

With the 370 you will get and dry head with a real shower, a real door to close off the master stateroom and an engine room in which you can actually walk between engines as in service access between the two is night and day. The 6.2 is a small block 350 GM block that Mercruiser stoked to make some more cubes. The 7.4 is the most common marine inboard motor on the planet.

The 340 should be less expensive even if it is in showroom condition... A lot of 340s out there, not many 370s... The 01 340 is a great boat... I have 7.4 that are fresh water cooled... I think the 6.2 are raw water cooled... I prefer fresh water cooled in salt water...

They typically still need to be checked on a regular basis. If everything is OK, just seal them back up and you'll be on your way.

Edit: Usually with a full fresh water kit, the engine AND manifolds run antifreeze, while the elbows/risers are the only pieces that flow raw water.
