1992 Sea Ray 330 Sundancer Refit and Modernization

Hey Zool, Just wondering how she is running??

Price of gas is keeping us in the river close to home, but we are running good.

Ive been working on the port engine. The oil pressure alarm was because the oil cooler failed and dumped oil out he exhaust. I had to remove the xchanger to get to it but it wasnt that bad, its back together now. The starboard has a new alternator but its not charging, so i got to trace the wiring. Im going over everything that looks suspect, and taking care of deferred maintenance.

Spent my 1st overnight on this rig last weekend and was great. I spend haft a day in the bilge and the other half having cocktails on the deck ;)

Most boats in my club stay at the dock with these prices, lots of RIBs going in and out tho.

Thats a bummer about the engine issues but I know you will get everything sorted out. My only real issue is the Groco SV thru hull seacock for the AC is stuck in the closed position so I can not run my AC. These valves were serviceable but have been out of production for 20+ years and rebuild parts seem very scarce. I have a plan to borrow the thru hull from the waste tank macerater pump out, which will never be used where we are, to at least get the AC running (that is if is works), until the boat is out of the water so I can repair/replace the stuck one. The pump out thru hull is conveniently located in a hard to access location. Not that there is anything that is easy access in the bilge of these boats.

I am sure I will find more things needing to be addressed. Hope you can get her out on the bay soon.

Mike

When i went to remove the heat xchanger, I tried to close the seacock and mine are stuck open, I guess because its above the water line it was no problem, but I still may have to address that too, maybe on the hard this fall.

Ive just been using the Century CC I finished restoring which sips gas compared to this lol.

Zool, That is a cool center console!! I would love have a toy like that to take for a joy ride when the wife doesn't feel like boating. Do you have a thread on the restore?

On my boat Sea Ray used Groco SV seacock valves like pictured below. They are serviceable a but apparently the repair parts are NLA and of course they do not make a direct bolt in replacement valve. My theory is the plug that is tuned to open or close the valve is no longer attached to the handle. Of course in order to repair or replace the boat needs to be on the hard. My thought is to change it from stuck closed to stuck open and then replace the elbow with a ball valve. It looks like sea ray fiberglassed in a mounting plate and screwed the sea cock down. I have not checked my 2 engine or the macerator/waste tank discharge seacocks.

What have others done when replacing these older valves?

Last time i worked on a stuck open valve, I threaded a new ball valve and reattached the hose, it was for the washdown seacock on the CC.

Heres the link to the Century thread.

Just ran across your project. LOVE seeing all the things. I tried focusing on the cosmetics of ours, but practicality of it running, staying cool, and replacing the camper top took over. I did through recover the forward berth and have scrubbed everything. Thank you for posting the flooring photos. This has been on my list. I'd love to see what else you've finished.
