I am currently looking to buy a 1990 280 Sundancer. I havent been able to find much info. on the boat and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. It has twin 305s with Alpha 1s, and 10'6" beam. I am wondering what the cruising speed, WOT speed and any pros or cons known about this boat.

Thanks,
Kevin

I had that boat for 10 years. It was a great boat and a big 28' . I had twin mercruiser 350 alpha 1 in it. I believe it cruises at 3300 rpm @ around 30mph. I think I had it up to 42mph flat calm. No real problems except for the side window leaks and make sure the bowrail uprights are caulked good. The engine compartment you can stand in front of engines with plenty of room. The middle support I use to leave the nuts off the bolts that would hold it in. You can just lift it out so I could just walk to other side. I also added the a swimplatform on the back it was just as big if not bigger then a 2000's 31ft. Any other questions just ask. Rich

We had a 1991 280 Sundancer for about 5 years, great riding boat with a well laid out cabin. The only up side if you can find a 1991 is the Alpha drives were counter rotating, this was the first year of this. You can change out the Port drive to a counter rotation yourself too. I second what was mentioned about the bow rails.... Check the upholstery inside for water stains as the long side windows leak.

Thanks guys for the response. Well, the boat checked out great and I put a deposit down. Just waiting to make the sale final after the sea trail. Unfortunatly I will have to wait till late April. Can't wait to drive twins for the first time. So now I have to sell the 1987 250DA.

Well, I bought the 280 and it is awesome. I am having a problem with the engines stalling when shifting gears, which makes it pretty challenging to dock. Does anyone have any advise why the engines stall. It run great cruising (3200 rpm) and at WOT (4500 rpm). I have heard that it could be the lower shift cables are worn out.

I would put all new boot's on both drive's and shift cable's. I don't like the sound of $1100 if it just the cable for one drive. seem's like the cable was $60 a few years ago. Pm with a phone number. I will talk to you about it.

That price is for both drives with boots, alignment, gimble check and inspection.

That sounds fair. I pm you on the prices of the parts at mercruiserpars.com I have the waterpumps on there too, witch may not me a bad Idea to change also. .
