Hi all. I am repowering my 1989 SR Weekender 300 that has 7.4L MErcruiser straight inboards,330hp I think. I am buying used (rebuilt) drop-in engines, most likely Crusader 454's. However, some I have looked at come as both engine and tranny/drive together. Unfortunately, I can't find the tag on my current transmissions to know what I have - I think they are rusted over and or tag fell off. I'll replace the drives as well if engines I buy come with the correct ratio drive as my current drives look rustier than I like.
I know there are ways to use a tach to check the ratio, but I was hoping to find someone here who owns the Weekender 300 w/ big blocks and can tell me what they have for drives. I know bigger SR's of this era often came with 1.91:1 ratio Velvet drives and some had 1.52:1 drives. Because the 7.4L were a less common power for this model (typically small block 260 hp) they may have used less gear reduction with the big block upgrade, I don't know.
Anyways, if you have a late 80's Weekender 300 and can tell me what your drive ratio is I'd appreciate it. If you have the big block engines even better. Thx.
