1989 390 express cruiser

I bought a 4" california king size memory foam mattress off of amazon. Under 200.00. I pulled the old mattress out of the boat. I let the memory foam mattress obtain its full size after unpackaging it. I put the old mattress on top of it, drew it on with a sharpie and cut it out with an electric knife. I had to piece about 4 inches of the corners on each side, which I attached to the new cutout with spray adhesive!!! Looks and better yet, sleeps awesome! To make a cover for the mattress I bough a nice california king plush mattress cover, cut the stretchy side material completely off, recut the top, piecing the side as above, sewed the pieces together, matching lines in the mattress pad, then sewed the stretchy side material back on pulling it as I stiched it to the mattress pad so that it would be like elastic. It fits like a glove, as good as a professional! I saved myself over 1000 dollars doing it this way and boy is it comfortable.

i just had a custon 8.5 inch materess made its way worth the mopney i had tried the memory foam thing and it was ok but i figured if i was going to spend more time on my boat then at home i was going to be just as comfortable and its water and mildew resisitant since it is made for the marine enviroment but what ever works for you is good just my $.02

On my 1986 390 the island is a cut down double. This spring I removed the old SR foam mattress and bought a Wal Mart 8" double size memory foam for $240. Put it on the island for 2 days to let it expand then used the old mattress for a template and cut new one with a sharp fillet knife. Now more comfortable than my $1200 Sterans and Foster queen at home.
