1989 220 OV hour meter wiring connections

Hello All. I am new to this site and was wondering if anyone knows if my 1989 22OV hour meter runs off the ignition (key on) or engine run time? I have the 5.7 liter engine and the hour meter is not working so I would like to trouble shoot it and get it working again or just replace.

When I installed my hour meter I just connected it to the instrument wiring. It runs when the ignition is on (key on).
