1988 268 Sundancer

I took pics of the old stripes , removed them myself, gave the pics to a local graphics shop, everything was made from the pics i gave them, they put the stripes and decals on the boat. They look great, did a nice job.
.......

Wow...impressive! Hope I can find someone around here to do that for me.
Nice job!

Just me,

did you detail the boat yourself? If so, what buffer did you use and what type of polish?
I can't wait until Spring!
Sorry it takes so long to get back with you but i'm gone most of the time. I have a 6in Porter Cable. Aqua Buff for the polish, Yeah i do the work myself when i'm here and have the time.

I have been looking for about a month and can't find the battery charger. I have an external power plug with a 110 elect. box in the cabin. Have looked in eng. compartment and most of the easy places. Any oune out there know the factory location of the battery charger??? Or do not I not have one??

Have not looked there- Will check majanna, thats tex-mex for tomorrow....

I had an 1989 268 Dancer and it's charger was located on the transom behind the engine towards the port side. It was up high on the transom.

It's been years since having the boat, but I'll never forget the location of the charger. It caught on fire in Sandusky Ohio one day. The flames were coming out of the top of the charger (through some vent holes in the metal) and the flames were licking the fiberglass just an inch or so above the charger. Got there just in time to stop disaster.

It's a blue/grey box with a meter on the front for seeing the amps being provided. Maybe 6" wide x 14" tall and 4" deep if my memory serves well. Replaced it right there before heading back home!

Good luck finding yours.

I had a friend(boat mechanic) look in the bilge with me today -No Joy- will look again though....

Im a building contractor on Long Island who also does carting. I actually got her free including the trailer.
I want to restore her because theres only 20 hours on the rebuilt 4.3s and frankly Searay makes a nice boat. I saw the reciept he paid to a company called "Engine House" it was for $8200. So yes I think I did good. Im wondering if I should strip and paint her with Interlux 2 part. I saw a Silverton painted with it and was impresssed.
Ive een looking for other Searays of thisvintage and type on this site. I could definately use some help

Be careful striping. If you have never used stripper on gel coat or fiberglass before I strongly, strongly suggest you do not strip it but rather you should sand it. Before you jump into all that, make sure you have a solid boat. Anything can be rebuilt, just depends on time and money.

Just Me, Your boat looks great. I have a 1988 268DA. I used a product called Cetol that I bought from West Marine to refinish my teak. It has held up well. I also was glad to see your upgrade to a triple axle trailer. My trailer was upgraded to triple a couple of years before I got it. It sure gives you a little extra piece of mind while rolling down the road. I will try to post some pictures one of these days. Our boats are very similar. I only have single 454 and no radar arch, other than that they look the same.

Thanks. I would like to Sea pics of your boat, and pics at Lake Powell if you got em. Where do you boat in Colo? I drove past Blue Mesa here not to long ago, water was glass, not one boat on the lake. To late in the season i guess.

just me,

I have a 86 268DA and have to say your 88 looks incredible! It is inspiring to see what you have done and the potential in these thick hull Sea Ray Classics. Truly Amazing!

Do you mind if I throw a few questions at ya?

(Front Hatches) My Taylor Made front hatches are leaking and the adjustment levers are broken. I was thinking of popping the lenses out and resealing them myself. Then I would contact Taylor Made for new hardware. Did you replace yours or repair them?

(Trailer) I noticed that you built/purchased a triple axle trailer. I just bought a dual axle at the end of last year. Mine is a 87 Oklahoma (Dorsey) trailer that is rated for 8k lbs. I’m curious why you went with a triple axle?

(Bimini Top) Where did you find your bimini canvas? I need to find one for mine as well but do not want it to interfere with the arch. I thought about having one custom made, but that can get expensive. I also need a new cover.

Thanks for your help!
