How did you get your rear teak wood off to redo them?

Side rails can be reached better after the side panels are removed , While i had the panels off i replaced the vent louvers and boxes. The louvers are New Old Stock i found on ebay . I didn't remove the rail on transom , sanded it in place.

I think we are talking about two different things. Mine has SS rails, was Teak Rail an option or did they start after putting on teak rails after 87?
I was looking at a 88 270 and that had Teak Railing.

You have 1989 style rail's . But it don't look like a 1989. In 89 Sea Ray dropped the color stripe above the rubrail , and changed the off white hull to artic white. so i guess you must have a late 88 at the begining of the change.

You got me on that one. As far as i know it wasn't an option. Maybe the owner back then had it changed to SS rails in 1989.

I looked all though Boat trader for 268's 86 to 89 and none of them have the SS rails and went to the Sea Ray 89 parts PDF and it shows it with a Teak rail so now I am thinking it was a Special order.I wonder if anyone on this site knows for sure ?

What did you use on the Bow Pulput to clean it up? I took mine off and the inserts from the swim platform to clean up this winter. My Bow Rail is loose but will have to wait untill it warms up in late march to start that project thinking about using O-Rings to seal the bolts.

I took it off and sanded it with a palm sander. I use lemon oil on the wood

How long will the lemon oil last? Does it transfer to your feet or hands/clothes? Does it affect the fiberglass at all?
Nice smell too eh?

I don't know how long it last's compared to Teak oil , Never had it stain anything, but any oil will stain cloth so i never oil anything in the cabin that has cloth next to it. If i'm using the boat after i oil it, i wipe it down good and it stay's in the wood . Yeah it don't smell like teak oil, i think teak oil is just nasty stuff , i don't like it on the boat. I been using lemon oil on teak since 1987, back when i did a lot of skiing and the teak stayed wet. It gets on the fiberglass sometimes but it wipe's right off, no stain there. I have good luck with it.

I found this it sounds pretty good. I did a search and there were all kinds if idea's on cleaning Teak and what to put on it. I did Varnish on the swim platform of my Formula and it was shot by the end of the summer. Probably would be a good thread to start to see what the other Guys are using and how they get it clean.

When I got my boat last summer, the teak rails and pulpit were wx. beaten. I sanded ,stained and varnished, still looks good. will sand lightly this winter and re-varnish.... Should last at least a year maybe more since I store my boat on the trailer in my barn when not in use.
