****1987 Sea Ray 230 Weekender Purchase?

It was a big job for me as first I oiled all the new teak wood and the teak that I sanded then I installed it all and then after about a month it looked like it was on my boat for 10yrs. So I took it all off (again) used a teak cleaner and cleaned all the oil off of every piece of teak. I then used the Cetol you put 3 coats of the satin then for the sealer you put 2 coats minimum. I put 4 coats on some teak for extra protection. If you like the wet look that is what you will get, as you will get a high gloss and shows the grain off real nice. As soon as I pull mine out of the shed I will send you some pics. Do you have the teak that goes across the stern about 6" wide about 7' long I put 5 coats on it and people don't want to sit on it as they think it's still wet ha ha. I notice you have an anchor pulpit can you send me some pics of it would like to get some ideas and what kind of winch you have, as I am looking into the Lewmar winch. I have the 230 cuddy cabin.

Thanks so much for the info Old Blue!! I will do mine this off season. I take it you can buy all materials from Home depot. I do have an anchor pulpit, however the winch is my arms!! I will be getting the boat in about a week and a half for our next outing, I will send you a pic then, and I would like to see your teak pics. Yes I do have the teak pieces along the stern... I hope to have the same reaction very soon! LOL! Thanks again for the detailed info! Looking forward to your restore pics!

West marine is where to buy cetol its a little expensive 42.00 a quart 2 quarts should work for you they have different tones of color I went with the natural. I saw a place that is selling it for 36.00 a quart I will try to send you their site. One quart of satin and one of high gloss is all you should need. I just made it with the two quarts I added some teak too.

Thanks again Vin!! we have a Westmarine out here in Rocklin! Since I just have used cleaner on the teak, I shouldnt have to sand it right? What you describe is exactly what I want as far as finish. Thanks - Don

After I cleaned it with teak cleaner I brushed the teak with a soft wire brush then rinsed it with water real good and then sanded the teak with 220. You want to get as much oil out of that wood that you can. When I first oiled my teak I put on two coats (big mistake ha ha) anyway its worth the work when you see the finished product. I removed all of my teak off the boat.

I just wanted to you to know that I brushed the teak with a nylon brush while rinsing the wood (not wire brush) then sanded let me know if you get these pics. 100_1743.jpg100_1742.jpg100_1744.jpg100_1745.jpg100_1746.jpg100_1747.jpg The one pic of the bottom of my pole holder you can see the old teak that is on there. Quite a difference as you can see, well I am still working on it and will be for a long time. Starting to work on my cabin doors. Well take care hope all goes well.
