Hello AJ Owners,

Lets see who else has one.

I have a 1988 AJ 270 And it is my second one. My first was a 1984 245.

I have had mine for about 10 months now....it's been a rough 10 months but I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel!
Here she is Sunday in the new slip.

Mine is a '85 with the single 350. New interior, drive, rebuilt motor.

Hey BigJoe,

I dont get on here as much as I used to but there's quite few AJ owners on here.

I have some pics of mine in this thread.

would love to see some pics of yours.

Always trying to find new ideas for modifications.

That is a great looking T-Top. Atlantic Towers? If and when I need new canvas, I will be looking at something like that.

Cheers...Jake

Yes its from Atlantic towers.
After getting prices for a new bimini, Getting the hardtop was a no brained IMO.

Just finished doing new steering cable, Bellows, Carbs, Shift Cables and installing new water pumps next week. I didnt put her in the past summer due to finding issues that needed to be addressed and a rough wok schedule to boot, she will be ready for april 2014

Bump, still doing work And starting her up this weekend. Long costly job but love it

I just launched last weekend. Then we had a week of rain.

At least I'm floating.

I would like to thank everyone here who chimed in on my inquires regarding the performance on a 255 AJ w 5.7L/260hp Alpha I drive. I really would like to buy one and have several I was planning to look at but if I cant cruise at 21-23mph @ 3200-3300rpm at least then I just can't see myself being happy cruising to Bimini and the Keys at 17-18mph.

Pushing a cruise rate of 3800 - 4000 rpm for 3-4 hours seems risky in wear and tear not to mention possibility of breakdown during trips.

I hate to say it but i am now leaning towards a beautiful 245 cuddy cabin repowered with a 7.4L/310 MPI and Bravo I drive.

Thanks again everyone!

The 245 will do the same trip....even a 255 would be limited to good weather so you should be happy with the smaller more powerful boat.

Hey sorry to bother you but I'm really trying to find a suitable AJ mainly because of the beam, engine under floor, and stand up head. The transom door is also convenient.

I found one listed on the craigs list you recommended (thanks for that btw) that has twin 470's.

Not sure what the real hp rating is on those but speaking w owner he mentioned that it planes pretty easily and can cruise approx 24-25mph.

How are those 470's ? I understand they are FWC as well.

Thank you.

Twin 170s would give adequate power. I'd recommend a google search on mercruiser 170 issues though. If you had twin 4.3s (190 hp) you'd have a great setup. Especially for crossing the stream to the Bahamas.

Yes, I am seeing it. Love hate. Issue re alternator vs stator easy enough to resolve, and upgrading from 3" to 4" exchanger easy as well.

Increasing hp from 170 to 190 is a matter of carb upgrade to 4bbl, so far Im encouraged.

Thanks

If I recall correctly there's also issues with running hot. I may be wrong on that but I thought that was another 470 issue.
