My dad bought this car new.....I grew up riding in the back window at night looking at the stars, I learned to love the fast back old school ford...............

My first car was a 1970 Ford XL. Know it? Very rare. Big, 2 door fastback looking - like a road runner. Brown car, white vinyl roof. Bench seats. 390 cu in V-8 4 bbl, auto trans, 4 speaker stereo, hidden headlights, electric door locks, windows. I broke 1 engine mount and the u-joints in the first year - and blew the freeze plugs. There was 2 modes - floored, and skidding to a stop. Then, I became a fighter pilot. Thank god I didn't buy a comet.

My first car was "made in Torino":grin::grin::grin: a 1970 FIAT 500 ...I still own her!

My first one was a '56 Chevy Belair 2 door sedan. I bought it from my high school economics teacher for $300! It was originally a 265 V8 w/3 speed manual..."3 on the tree".

I saved up and bought a 350 horse 327 & 4 speed transmission out of a wrecked '65 'vette and dropped it in. It had a 3:73:1 positraction rear end and would embarass many of my "rich kid" friends in their GTOs, 442s & Road Runners. I painted it myself in GM Marina Blue and Arctic White. Only down side to the car is that those old drum brakes were not adequate for a car with that power.

Wish I still had it. I had a lot of fun with that car.

Well while not as sporty we had a 73 Gran Torino station wagon growing up that eventually became my first car. Ahh the vinyl seats... We got it because it had the luxury of Air Conditioning!!! We did not not even have AC in our house but our new car had it... You sure could fit a ton of friends in that vehicle.

my dad had a 1969 Mach1 Mustang as we were growing up. Sold it when the family needed a station wagon to fit the 3 kid lifestyle. We bought one together in 2002 and restored it. The fastback fords sure do have a special look!

1971 Ford Pinto :smt038 that of course I turned into a go fast model followed by a 1967 Camaro RS (stolen after 1 month) then my baby...1969 Camaro with a 300 HP 350, 4-speed rock crusher and limited slip rear end. I think there are still burn marks on the streets of my home town. These were all while in high school.

When I grew up I went to a 1979 Firebird Formula with a turbocharged 350 that could burn rubber while going 70MPH! Maybe I should have become a fighter pilot too?

Bought a '67 Chevelle SS when I was 16...wish I had her back...

a family hand me down...'66 dodge coronet, 225 slant 6,
3-on-the-tree,
Then another..'71 Gremlin...did you know those things had vacuum operated windshield wipers? The way I drove it, there weren't too many days out in the rain:lol:
Then my first that I bought..'69 camaro, plain 327 4 speed,
loved that car... but decided to sell it to buy a new '76 chevy pickup to try to make some in-roads with my employer in the drilling business. Always said I would have another '69 camaro someday. The drilling business worked out and I've always been a pickup man since...but I did get another '69.
This time it was a Z-28. Man I wish I had it back.

Ahhh. 69 Ford Torino.... Back in my very early days of wrenching I worked at a Ford-Lincoln-Mercury dealership. A older tech "Carl" in his 50's, worked Ford most all his career, took me in my early twenty's under his wing.

A Cyclone Spoiler came in one morning. Carl told me it was Merc's version of the Talladega. The Ford Torino paced the field of Talladega’s inaugural race. Talladega’s specs were something like the car needed to hold 110 mph in the banking. Hence the 429CJ was born. I'm quoting my memory here! May have been the day of 69. I'm sure a quick Google search would bring up some interesting history.

My first high school hot rod was a 69 Charger, 383 auto. The engine would break up like clock work @ 130mph. Tried to fix that but never could figure it out. BTW... my 69 was most likely the fastest I've seen posted in this thread so far.

Sold that 69 in 76 for a weeding ring. Still with that girl today. Replaced that Charger with a brand new 99 Firebird. Drag raced the shiit out of that Bird the first few years. Now it mostly just sit in my garage.

Maybe faster off the line but top end on my '70 bird was out of this world! 150 no problem and was too smart, scared, etc. to push past that on the road.

What???? :smt018 Mine was surely the fastest....OK..just in the eternal city traffic....:grin::grin:

btw, I love your muscle cars!!!

Pietro,

Saw quite a few of those still running on our trip to Rome last fall. The new Fiat "retro" 500 looks pretty good too, but yours is a classic! Glad you still have it.

I've started some crap. I feel like Four Suns jr here.

Mine was my dad's '67 Mustang GT fastback. I remember always being excited when he said, "we need to go out to the interstate and blow the carbon out of the engine". No memory of how fast we went- I was only nine. He was 32 then. Now, he drives a golf cart in Florida chasing a little white ball all day.

Ps. I do know we probably never wore a seat belt.....

While far from my first car this was one of my favorites and see one on Barrett Jackson last year or maybe the year before that. A 1972 Montego Cobra GT, it a had a 428 CJ Ram Air 351hp with a 4 speed. Sure had a lot of fun with that car and got a lot of tickets one of the nicest fastbacks Ford every made. The Cobra option makes it a very rare car.
There is a 70ish Torino, been sitting for 17 years just north of Bradford Ontario, it has the SCJ option, a very rare car. (Super Cobra Jet 429).
The other car that I owned that I wish I still had was a 1967 Satellite Belvedere Convertible, a real nice looking car not fast just nice looking.
