Does this sound like the going price? I knew it wasn't cheap but this sort of shocked me. I might just have to do my own mx. I did my last boat it just had a few less features.

depends on what you get... I do all my own winterization, and the cost to power wash, haul, block and launch the boat is about $31 a foot... Strink wrap is around $12 a foot...

That wasn't shrink wrapped or anything like that. It was taking it to them to do the motor, lower unit, water system, generator, AC, bait station, and toilet.

The local marina I use charges $160.00 and does everything. Oil filer, oil, fuel filter change outdrive oil, align outdrive, 100 below antifreeze, and other winter prep. I store in pole barn so not shink wrap.

I don't have the form in front of me but I believe it costs me about 400-500 for 2 engines, AC, and head pump out, and water system.

...and for $1400 you oughta get champagne, caviar, a year of free limo service and atleast a backrub or two.

unless there is something I'm missing...holy cow. now if they're doing a 3-step buff & wax, all fluid changes, filling the tanks, changing all impellers,...wait, still way too much $$.

I just cant see $1400... $300 maybe.

Oh dear lord, this whole thread should be banned for the mere mention of the “W” word.

Point of reference. Chicago Sea Ray charged me $800 to winterize two engines last winter so $1400 for one engine must mean they use Dom Perignon instead of pink for antifreeze.

The $1,400 probably includes the haul, blocking, storage, acid wash, relaunch, and winterization... If that is the case it is probably about average for the area, and you can save about $400 if you do your own winterization. The haul, cleaning, blocking and storage, relaunch are cost you can't get around without a trailer, power washer, and a big truck...

Okay, I called another Sea Ray dealer I thought I might not mind driving to and this is what I got:

Engine Winterize oil/filter/fogging/antifreeze etc./lower unit lube = 320
Water System = 65
Generator = 75
AC = 60
Bait Station = 60
Vacu Flush = 65

for a total of $645

I called the other dealer back and asked what gives and he started off by telling me how other dealers skimp on this stuff and more or less that they do it RIGHT and you get what you pay for. I have my boat on a trailer and tow it with my truck so none of the 1400 was for storage or cleaning or anything. I looked on their website and it looks like some of their charges are at least double the other delaer I spoke with. I did contact a non-sea ray dealer and they want about $350 for just the motor and lower unit service. After reading through the whole winterization thread I think I can do most of this stuff myself but the motor is my only concern. I have the 496 8.1 in my boat and I believe it is the closed loop system but I didn't find any substantial info on winterizing this motor. Everything I want done there was a bunch of info but a little less it seemed on the motor. I don't know if the $645 is high or not.

My cost of $800 was for Twin V drives not stern drives which I believe require more servicing so $645 may not be that unreasonable compared to what I paid here in the Chicago area.

good call on doing your own winterizing. It's easy and you'll learn your systems like the back of your hand and be more cognizant of maintenance issues.

thats what you get for talking about winterization in August!:huh:

I wish I didn't have to think about it now but with my job and crazy schedule I need to stay on top of things like this or else I might end up deployed or something silly and then it's up to the wife to do this stuff and we know what happens then, it cost me even more.

Where are you located? Someone from the CSR site might be able to so you how to do it yourself...

That's insane. For $1400 I will drive up there from Md. and do it. Get yourself a small compresser from sears and crank it down low to blow out your water lines. Use stabilizer in your oil and install new filter and oil when winterizing. The stabilizer stops the oil from breaking down over the winter and allows you 25-50 hours run time in the spring till your next change. Yes,like Scott said use 100 anti-freeze. Don't have dog legs(outdrives) so I can't help you there. If it's carburated, then fog it, If it's MPI's then use the oil cocktail to run thru the motor. Clean out the strainers. After your first time the others will be easy.
