I have a new 240 SD ordered from a multiple location dealer. When I was looking, the sales manager made a big deal about the bow cushion being a standard item on ALL of the boats he orders. Well, the boat came in, without a bow cushion, and none is listed on the window sticker. He says "Sorry, turns out this one didn't come with it. However, I can get you one that is normally $1400 but you can have it for $915 which is my cost".

Questions...1st, does anybody use theirs, making this a worthless argument? 2nd, can you buy it somewhere other than the dealer? Third, is this really the price of these things? And if the answer to three is "Yes", the follow up question is...what the (*&(*& are they made of?

Thanks in advance.

PS...similar story about the rear stereo controls, but I can get one from Ebay for $125 or so and install it myself, so it isn't worth the argument. I otherwise like the boat and love the deal.

I dont like it. I dont like it one bit. What else is missing? He is already into you for over $1000 worth of "Sorrys". I had a rough experience buying my first boat (used) But I will never accept "sorry" again.

Hope I'm not putting a damper on your deal but dang.

Ok, maybe a dumb comment, but if they said you got a bow filler cushion you should get a bow filler cushion in the deal period. Did your boat come with the bow filler boards. Go pull one off one of the other boats!

As to using the bow filler, yes the girls like to use it when laying out in the sun.

When you purchased your boat did you get a detail of the options?

When you close the deal....I'm SORRY Mr. Sales Mgr...my check is $915.00 short. Eloquently ask him if his word is worth $915...and you will have a bow cushion.

Standard Item? HA! That's funny. I don't have one but I would like to have one but cost has kept me from buying it.

If he sold you a boat that had the cushions and stern stereo control obviously those items were included in the price. Now he should come up with those items at no charge to you or reduce the price by the appropiate amount if you are willing to do without them. I gotta ask....what does your sales agreement say that you are getting?

I'd have to agree with what everyone is saying. Sounds like a Bait and Switch!

Excellent questions and input...

The order sheet I signed did not say anything about bow cushions or transom stereo remote. The demo boat I looked at had these, and I specifically noted them on my list of "wants" and discussed these specific items with the sales manager, who noted that all of his boats came with them. He did not have the color I wanted at his location, but ordered mine from another location, so I didn't see it. I did not do a checklist walkthrough, so that part is "My bad". I otherwise like the deal and the boat. The only two items are the cushions and transom stereo. I will certainly press both issues, but to be fair, part of this is my fault for allowing myself to be pressed into signing something and I accept responsibility. (What's the old joke that has the punch line "But you knew I was a snake!")

Thanks to Club SeaRay, I know how easy the transom stereo remote is to install. I searched all the forums about bow cushions and never found anything on point regarding either purchase, utility or replacement, so I really wasn't sure about the level of controversy, but I am thinking that $1k is worth an argument. Interesting that the cushions are only $400+ online though.

http://www.searay.com/configurator.asp?pmid=140226&tab=1& According to SR the bow filler cushions if you ordered it from SR as an option was 423. Less the typical 25% you should get those for less than 350.00 Your getting screwed.

+1

The prices on the Sea Ray site are supposed to be the right ones. $423 VS $1500 is a major difference.... I would print the Sea Ray site page or direct your salesman to the Sea Ray site to show him the $423. If he still stick to the $900 price I would call Sea Ray to verify the $423 and ask them to contact your dealer. If it does not work I would ask Sea Ray how to order a bow cushion at $423 other than through your dealer.

After sending the sales manager the link to the SeaRay page (provided by this group), here is his response

"Sorry about that snafu Charles, I had told our parts clerk to get the "production" cost for that and not the "replacement" cost. If ordered after the fact, it is a replacement cost. So, it will only be the $423.00. Just for edification, if you called Sea Ray to order it, it would be about $1100.00. (shipping and handling etc included) Also, again to clarify, I will have to contact the President of Sea Ray Sports Boats Division and get his authorization to provide the bow filler set to us at production cost versus replacement. But I have done that before so I do know the tricks ;)"

Thus, my free membership to CSR has had an immediate theoretical value of roughly $500 on the bow cushions, and about $300 for the rear transom stereo remote and rear tilt trim. Not a bad ROI. Thanks.

OK Charles...time to pony up the 25 bucks now

Wow, 2 lines of crap in the same breath. Egg on his face for sure.

Enjoy the non replacement cusions. Hopefully the president of SRSB makes the right decision. lol

Heck with all that extra money you should at least go for gold!:smt043:lol:, better yet send each of us that helped $25:thumbsup:

Just kidding, who are you dealing with at MM?

My $25 donation was just made...and gratefully so, I might add.

I agree, the "I'll have to contact the President of SeaRay" bit was a little much. I attached it as a treat for those who might appreciate it. I personally thought it was at least a good faith attempt at face de-egging. Saleguys have a hard enough life in normal times, in tough times, it has to be brutal. He got beaten up pretty bad on the original deal, I can't fault him for trying to squeeze a couple of bucks out of the close.

As for the MM rep, it wasn't really my sales relationship. I have a friend who is the sales manager at one of the Infinity automobile dealers. I asked his help. I am an amateur...he is a friggin' trained assassin. I was actually pretty happy with the prices quoted at the boat show, however he used that as the starting point and shaved another nearly $15k off the deal. Watching him negotiate, I was awestruck. Every time we had a deal and papers hit the table, he went back for more. The sales manager was a guy named Richard Hunter, who seemed very knowledgeable, pleasant, and capable. There was a predictable amount of sales BS, but I think that goes with the territory. I do not think he intentionally misrepresented the facts, I think that it was just a function of a large orginalization and "one of those things". I bristle when people try and get "something for nothing" out of me and I try to keep that in mind when dealing with other people.

I'm glad to hear you're making progress with the dealer, but in this case I don't think you're trying to get anything from them you're not entitled to. You bought the boat with the understanding that these two items were included. You shouldn't have to pay extra for them -- no matter how hard a bargain you drove.
