FWIW, theres a guy at our marina who bought a leftover 2006 340 last summer (~june 07). I think it was in the $220s when he got it brand new. He barely used it and has now bought an even bigger searay and the 340 is listed for $199K. I think it has <50hrs, and its loaded with every option I can think of -- black hull, all 3 TVs, the raymarine package, and teak cockpit floors. Gorgeous boat, its really brand new IMHO. And there are lots of those deals out there, I can't see spending $300K for an '08 that once its in the water is identical.
I don't think I could buy a new one and take the depreciation hit, but I think if I were shooting for an '08, I would try for close to $250K for a pretty nicely equipped boat. Folks here are correct, if you pay $300K, in 2 years it will be worth <$200K, especially when its about to be replaced and the searay dealers will no longer have them on the lots at MSRP.
Also, if you put the usual 20% down on it at $290-300K, you'll owe ~$230K on it in 2 years and it'll be worth $180-200K. Not a good situation.
Also, walk in there with a cashiers check for your downpayment, ask for an offer contract, write in the number you want, and attach the check. Tell them you're going to lunch and will be back in an hour for their answer. Dealers won't get serious unless they see a check in front of them and they know you are serious.
