What is the best avenue to remove paint (old boat name) without damaging the gel coat?

The area is just above the rear compartment door. Therefore, I will be drilling into the compartment itself. That is why I don't know if it will be strong enough to hold. I am able to using through bolts and the bracket on the inside that came with the pole. I will work on a pic later.
