    Mercruiser 260 stalling out

Yes the points are gonna go soon. Elect Ign is overdue, will also replace coil at the same time. BATTERIES: I have two different batteries in the boat-I was told by my mechanic to run on BOTH-But.....I also heard or read that batteries themselves can have an internal short in them that can cause...

    Mercruiser 260 stalling out

IT'S Back! Thought I had this fixed with the fuel filter replacement and fresh gas and so on. The boat did fine for 2 hours and then...same thing, it shut down, motor died, waited a few minutes and started right up, ran for a minute or so and died. This is probably the most frustrating type of...

    Mercruiser 260 stalling out

Another quick note, I am not ruling out the possibility of something electrical being the stall problem, but with the fuel system in the condition it was, I will take her for a sea trial and find out. Alot of the electrical on this boat looks great, tidy clean and organized, and there is some...

    Mercruiser 260 stalling out

Ok! Got the fuel water separator top off and the filter was filthy, I mean bad! Removed the bottom and about at least 1.5 cups of crap was in there. There is a second fuel filter screw on type between the fuel pump and carb. It was not good either but much better than the one between the tank...

    Mercruiser 260 stalling out

Any thoughts on the amp gauge? Is 25-28 on the gauge too high?

    Mercruiser 260 stalling out

Yes it cut out abruptly. I let it sit for a few minutes and would start up right away. The carb has been completley rebuilt and has only about 2 hours on the rebuild, so I wouldn't suspect that, however the water fuel separator has alot of flakey scaley residue in it, I'll change that as well...

    First time out after restore

Ahoy Boaters! After 14 months and countless hours in the boat--- in the driveway, I trailered, prepped and launched her. Fantastic feeling! No hickups-none whatsoever, quiet, smooth, great solid boat. My first ocean boat, my first Sea Ray. This was alot of fun to project this boat. I got a great...

    Trim Ram Compatibility

I have a trim ram with a leaking crack. I would rather have a new/used set of rams. Does anyone know which are compatible with MR drives if any.

    Taking on Rain Water

Hello Boaters, we got hit with a good "first storm" of the year. I have spent countless hours trying to figure out how I am accumulating water in the sump area (below the bottom step going into cabin area). It is trailered. The cockpit area is covered and it is parked in a position that even if...

    Draining the old Gas

Hello Boaters! I'm having a hard time deciding how to get the old gas out of the tank. I tried a syphoning hose but it gets to a point where it wont go any further. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm guessing theres about 20-25 gallons remaining in the tank. Also heard of using the gas...

1982 Sea Ray 225 Express Cruiser - Project

It made a HUGE difference, alot of teak on these older Rays, but well worth it. Cabot is what I used. Goes on nicely. When I figure out how to post multiple pics, I'll show the project from start to finish. Maybe photobucket or something. This project has been a blast.

    Electric Brake Controversy

Thanks Quint4! I have read the attached post for weeks over and over with careful examination, from what I could see in the pics. When you refer to the sealing of all connections, what did you use? Also are your brake lights grounded to the trailer frame and if so is there any effect it will...

    Electric Brake Controversy

OK Once again boaters! I see all kinds of threads on electric brakes on this site and others , however, when I go to get new trailer parts for my trailer, I get the-"you cant do that on a boat trailer" run-around. So are electric brakes acceptable to use? Once my boat is at the boatyard...

    Panel Switches/fuses

Tried this question on the Electrical forum but got no responses. I replaced the panel mount fuse holders on the helm. I realized after careful examination the stock fuse holders are rated at 15 amp. The replacement holders are rated for 10 amp. Even though only 1 of the switches holds a fuse...

    Panel mount fuse holders

Hi folks! In the process of a 80 225 Express Cruiser project. I am replacing the panel mount fuse holders and got 3/4 the way through and realized the new ones are stamped 10 AMP. The stock holders were 15. My question is: you guessed it! If the switch/accessory requires, say a 5 or even 10 amp...

    Cetol Marine Gloss questions

Cetol Marine is what my brother used on my Teak and it is amazing. Alot of work (teak) but very worth it. As for the outdrive, Its most likely an MR drive. I've got an 80 Ex Cruiser with this set up.
