I’ll take 2 Long Blocks please

Hello All Tried using the search engine for this but no luck. I’m replacing both 7.4 L (310 HP?) gas engines on my 1996 370 SB. PO took the boat from lake to ocean years ago without heat exchangers so my cores are trash. Verified it. I’ll do a lot of the work myself but need long blocks plus a...

    Build-up in Westerbeke Gen Exhaust

Thanks for the input. Cleaned and reassemble the generator. Used high temp sealant on all gaskets. All test runs good so far. It starts much quicker which leads me to believe there was a head gasket issue ( low compression) and water was migrating into 2 of the 3 cylinders. On start up, the salt...

    Build-up in Westerbeke Gen Exhaust

Well...that’s the 1000 question. Just curious what the exhaust build up is.

    Build-up in Westerbeke Gen Exhaust

Hi guys, For the second time in 3 months I’ve had to pull the head off my Westerbeke 7.0 BCG for water in the oil. First time there was no build up an exhaust port but the second time I pull the head off I had a significant amount of build up an exhaust port. Is this calcium? Appreciate your...

    Westerbeke 7.0 Water in oil

I don’t know... never saw a model number on the engine itself

    Westerbeke 7.0 Water in oil

I finished the project and so far all looks good. Generator runs well, holds a load and no water in the oil. I ended up replacing the head, exhaust and intake gaskets. The only thing I found that looked suspicious was the intake gasket. It had a defect that may have let water migrate. I’m glad I...

    Westerbeke 7.0 Water in oil

Looking closer cylinder on the right shows evidence of water. A gasket set for this engine is a pain to find locally. Found a company called king cobra part in KY that sells the set for $199.00. I have the Daihatsu engine.

    Westerbeke 7.0 Water in oil

Thank you...a few pics. The area I’m pointing has a lot of corrosion. Seems a lot of water has been present in this area. No real smoking gun other then that as far as I can tell.

    Westerbeke 7.0 Water in oil

Followed up on the Westerbeke tech rep....Westerbeke doesn’t want anything to do with it....no help. No surprise. I was leaning towards a head gasket issue as well. Start that project tomorrow. Pics to follow....

Removed manifold and tested, yes. Cap was off. I’ll call the tech rep tomorrow. A few random pics...

    Westerbeke 7.0 Water in oil

Manifold test fine. Blocked the 3 exhaust ports and applied vacuum....used smoke to look for leaks...noted zero draw. Head gasket next?

    Westerbeke 7.0 Water in oil

I read some of the older posts about this but came away confused. There’s conflict in the discussion on whether 1990’s gas Westerbekes have an oil cooler. That aside, I’m not sure where to start. If I pour coolant into the reservoir (metal tank attached to engine with radiator style cap) it...

1996 370 Sedan Bridge Dinette fill in cushions

Hi folks New boat to me and thinking of making the dinette bed into a daybed set up. I’ll add support if needed but need the fill in cushions. Where are they located on the 370 Sedan Bridge? Thank You- Chris

    Westerbeke Overhaul Shops

Thanks for the assistance ....boat is in Long Beach CA. A further search revealed shops in California that repair engines. At this point I need an estimate to rebuild the engine (haven’t closed on the purchase) if the source of the water/oil migration can’t be located or there is collateral...
